Burnout Paradise Screenshots: Retail Exclusive Cars

Here's a few more screenshots of a couple of cars in the upcoming Burnout Paradise, which feature the pre-order exclusive car and a GameStop car. Looks like cars may be downloadable from retail Xbox 360 kiosks once again, based on the looks of the GameStop car screens. When Burnout Revenge was released on the Xbox 360, several retailers featured downloadable content at their Xbox 360 kiosks (see here). The cars could be downloaded by using your Xbox 360 Memory Unit in the kiosk. With kiosks rarly being updated by the stores and problems in transferring the data to Xbox 360s, the cars were eventually released as free downloads over the Xbox Live Marketplace. No confirmation on how this will work in Burnout Paradise.

The pre-order exclusive car, Steel Wheels, can be obtained via an email code or a card from Gamestop when you pre-order the game.

Burnout: Dominator

Burnout: Dominator is the next instalment in the thoroughly enjoyable Burnout series. Its predecessor, Burnout 3: Takedown was widely regarded as the pinnacle of the Burnout series having integrated destruction and mayhem to a title renowned for some very fast and very dangerous driving action. So how do you improve on the best? Well Dominator has more than a few tweaks of its own. In come a Rivals mode, a 'maniac' mode and a brand new World Tour option, out go the highly agreeable Crash mode and the online multiplayer option. So where does this leave us?

The game engine itself is pretty much the way you will remember it from previous Burnout incarnations. The gameplay and controls feel the same, the signature Boost gauge returns, as does the linear bar indicating the quantity, depth and sheer volume of the destruction that you have left in your wake.

Its 'Burnout Paradise' this Winter!

Electronic Arts (EA) has christened the next chapter of its popular demolition racing series as 'Burnout Paradise,' slated to arrive alongside on both Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PS3 this winter, the company announced.

Developer of 'Burnout Paradise,' UK-based Criterion Games, said it has greatly improved upon the game's Gen-Next graphics.

Late Night Consoling

According to reports out of Nintendo Power, Bizarre Creations' well-loved top down shooter franchise Geometry Wars will be seeing entries on Wii and Nintendo DS as Geometry Wars: Galaxies. Apparently, Galaxies will veer away from the quick-play arcade roots of the original Xbox and Xbox 360 games, and will be "a full-fledged game with an extensive single-player campaign" as well as multiplayer modes. Unsurprisingly, Galaxies will feature some sort of motion control and stylus-based control on Wii and DS respectively. For gamers who prefer the old-school take, the original Geometry Wars and Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved will be included.

Geometry Wars: Galaxies is being developed by Kuju Entertainment, the studio behind the Battalion Wars franchise on GameCube and Wii, as well as the multiplayer component of Arkane Studios' Dark Messiah of Might & Magic (PC).

New downloadable tracks for PSP's Burnout Dominator

Burnout Dominator is getting its very own set of downloadable content in the form of two extra tracks. Best of all, especially given that storage space is a bit of a premium on the handheld, they will be available free of charge meaning you can download them, play them, then delete them again if you need to free up space, safe in the knowledge you can get them again any time.

The first track, Carnival Point, is apparently available already. Unfortunately I can't check it out right now but let us know what it's like if you have a copy of the game. The other track, Red Gate, is coming on the 7th of June and is based on the busy street s of an Eastern European city.

This an interesting move for the PSP and one that Sony must be hoping will further distinguish the handheld from its competitor, the Nintendo DS which is currently serving it its ass on a plate sales-wise.

Mass Effect Does for Games What Star Wars Did for Films

Pssst. Jedi wannabes. You might wanna jump ship. A sci-fi force more powerful than Lucas' is coming soon — not to a theater, but to an Xbox 360 near you. The Canadian developer behind 2003's Knights of the Old Republic, a game set in the Star Wars universe, already did what none of the films could do: It let players choose the light or dark side of the Force and influence the plot accordingly.

Now BioWare, based in Edmonton, is ditching George's franchise for its own epic space opera, which will have episodic interludes available for download in between the three major releases. Mass Effect, the first title in this ambitious new trilogy, is due to arrive as early as June. The game casts players in the role of Commander Shepard (shown at center), charges them with defending the galaxy from a race of machines in the 22nd century, and gives them free will.

'Halo 3' preview is fair game before Sept. 25

You remember your first kiss and your first car. And if you're a hard-core, bleary-eyed video gamer with too many 5 a.m. killing sprees in your pocket, you remember the first time you played "Halo" until you couldn't feel your red, raw thumbs anymore.

It was super happy awesome fun times, a "Doom"-style shooter set in outer space. You fired rocket launchers at rivals while you jumped 20 feet in the air to secure high ground. It was a real eye-opener to what glory was possible on the Xbox. Then came the improved "Halo 2."
