A Medal of Honor Worthy

In the ever changing landscape of video gaming, one thing will always stay constantly stocked on retail shelves, World War II games. While the Call of Duty franchise from Activision has thus far roamed the next-generation turf freely, EA will be bringing in the troops early next year with Medal of Honor: Airborne for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. To learn more about this possible Call of Duty killer, Executive Producer Patrick Gilmore was kind enough to answer some questions about the upcoming title and let us in what we should expect. What is Airborne all about? The story focus of the game is on the odyssey of the Airborne forces through World War II. There are five historic operations, Husky, Avalanche, Neptune, Market Garden and Varsity. As Private Travers and Pathfinder Eddie La Pointe, you will jump into each one, playing through Italy, France and, finally, Germany following the march to Berlin that effectively ended the European campaign.

IUP Continues Stranglehold on Team Lead at IUP Invitational

The IUP swim teams continued their stranglehold on the team lead and added 10 more event wins on the second day of the IUP Invitational at Memorial Field House.

The IUP women have 775.5 points to lead California (611.5), Slippery Rock (310), Mansfield (249) and West Virginia Wesleyan (182). The men have 533 points, well ahead of West Virginia Wesleyan (316).

Kate Rowe added to her wins in the 500 free and 200 IM on Friday by capturing two more individual event titles on Saturday. Rowe won the 200 free (1:59.03) and posted an NCAA B cut time in the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.62.

Joining Rowe with wins on the womens side were Carlee Myers in the 100 fly (1:00.11) and Casey Beck in the 100 back (1:02.06). Brittany Watkins was second in the 400 IM (4:48.41).

Marvel Ultimate Alliance: PS3 vs. Xbox 360 vs. Wii

While Marvel Ultimate Alliance might not be the best title to show off the graphical capabilities of all three systems, it's still interesting to see how the three current-gen consoles stack up when running the same game. The PlayStation 3 version is noticeably choppier than the other two, maybe a product of the game running at 1080p. If you want a clearer look at the side-by-side-by-side, check out the HD version of the video for maximum nitpickery and flamewar ammunition. Michael McWhertor

Hadley: Bush, al-Maliki to discuss 'new phase' for Iraq

TALLINN, Estonia (AP) -- Facing rising violence in Iraq and Afghanistan, President Bush opened a high-stakes diplomatic mission Monday seeking more help from allies amid growing impatience at home with the war.

"Obviously everyone would agree things are not proceeding well enough or fast enough" in Iraq, National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley said aboard Air Force One.

Bush left Monday for an overnight stop in Estonia ahead of a two-day NATO summit in Riga, Latvia. He then heads to Amman, Jordan, for talks Wednesday and Thursday with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. (Watch what President Bush hopes to accomplish in Jordan )

From Air Force One, the president spoke to the leaders of France and Egypt. Addressing Bush's upcoming talks with al-Maliki, Hadley said, "We're clearly in a new phase characterized by an increase in sectarian violence that requires us to adapt to that new phase."

"These two leaders (Bush and al-Maliki) need to be talking about how to do that and what steps Iraq needs to take and how we can support" Iraq's leaders, Hadley said.

Bargain hunters?

Selecting the right gift for someone on your holiday shopping list can be challenging. But what if that special person is a dedicated hunter and you are not? What to buy?

Here are some choices from a hunting enthusiast in a wide range of price points that are likely to please the hunter on your list who probably has everything already.

Books
Always a good idea; informative as well as entertaining. Some good choices:

Mapping Forest Bucks, by Brad Herndon. Krause Publications, $24.99. A great choice for someone who owns a GPS. (Or, buy the GPS, too.)

Wildlife of Pennsylvania and Northeast, by Chuck Fergus. Stackpole Books, $19.95.

Pennsylvania Wilds-Images from the Allegheny National Forest, by Linda Gensheimer and Ed Bernick. Forest Press, $39.95. Allegheny is one of the few National Forests east of the Mississippi, and there are great photos here.
