Dead or Alive 4 delayed in Japan

Another setback today for the ever-looming Xbox 360 launch in Japan on December 10th, with the news that Dead or Alive 4, one of the system's key home grown launch titles, has been delayed by a week and will no longer be available on day one. Hardly a major blow, a week is only a week, but nonetheless an irritation for Redmond who have already witnessed several key delays in this region so crucial to the console's success. Around the December 17th mark it is, then, with IGN revealing that the title is now 95% ready to go and is being polished by Tecmo.

Whilst the Xbox 360 launches in Europe on Friday (with severe stock shortages already forecast), Dead or Alive 4 won't be ready for the continent until January. The Japanese day one line-up now consists of: Ridge Racer 6, Every Party, Perfect Dark Zero, FIFA 06, Tetris Grandmaster and Need for Speed Most Wanted.

"We're excited, just one year after launch, to be able to offer such a diverse games line-up offering exclusive new titles and established blockbusters," he said.

DoA 4 Sells A Lot, Itagaki Still Fucked

With all that's swirling around that hard-drinkin', ass-grabbin' game designer, Tomonobu Itagaki, we'd like to point out that his hard-kickin', tit-shakin' game Dead or Alive 4 has sold quite well. The Xbox 360 game has sold over a million copies worldwide.

Congrats. Um...

While many think the Japanese just love Dead or Alive and that the series is super famous here, that's just not the case. It's popular with a very, very niche market. Yet, Microsoft has been pushing Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 like all hell, inadvertently pushing the console into a niche market as well. Stuff like this doesn't really help, either. Brian Ashcraft

Dead or Alive 10th Anniversary, DOA 5 In the Works

Tomonobu Itagaki, Tecmos head of Team Ninja and creator of the Dead or Alive series, has revealed at the At the Dead or Alive 10th Anniversary party that he's already working on Dead or Alive 5. "I've already started writing the basics for DOA5." Itagaki commented. "I cannot talk about it but the opening scene has already be determined in my head." Released on November of 1996 utilizing Sega's Model 2 arcade board, the original Dead or Alive fighting game pushed the hardware to its limits. The game was later ported to the Sega Saturn in Japan in 1997. In 2004, Tecmo released an enhanced edition of the Saturn version as part of Dead or Alive Ultimate.

Philippines squall toll: 469 and rising

LEGASPI: Rescuers arrived in this devastated Philippines city on Saturday as officials warned there would be few survivors from giant mudslides which swept away entire villages.

Military and civilian emergency workers delayed by typhoon Durian, which triggered the mudflows on Thursday, flew in at first light with the toll already at 469 dead or missing. Officials feared the death toll could reach 600.

As they made their way to the Mayon volcano, where rivers of mud and ash metres (yards) high obliterated whole communities, officials were pessimistic about finding people alive, and appealed for body bags and doctors.

Along the road from Legaspi to the town of Guinobatan a quiet procession of poor men, women and children clutching whatever they could salvage walked towards Legaspi hoping to find shelter and food.
