New Donkey Jet Screenshots

Previously known as DK Bongo Blast, Donkey Jet is the new name for the GameCube title that was skipped forward a generation, and is now due for release on the Wii later this year (June 28 in Japan). To coincide with the name change, Nintendo have also revealed that the bongo-centric control scheme has been replaced in favor of a Wii Remote and Nunchuk combination, though the exact details have yet to be confirmed.

Recent artwork and screenshots have revealed that a number of classic characters from the Donkey Kong franchise will be making an appearance. Examples include Diddy, Dixie, Tiny, Lanky, Cranky and Funky Kong as well as King K. Rool, Kritter Kip and Klass. Famitsu have managed to obtain a fresh batch of in-game screenshots from Nintendo, and you can now find these in the game’s image gallery right here on GWN.

Nintendo Wii VC Monday: The Elves Bring the 16-bit Love

Nintendo's vault-mining elves (according to the press release anyway) have done it again, putting together another excellent selection of new Wii Virtual Console titles to choose from this week.

In addition to the already revealed Blazing Lazers, both the SNES' Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and the Genesis' Streets of Rage 2 join the roster this week. None of these titles probably needs an introduction to longtime gamers, but just in case the official descriptions have been included below:

Donkey Kong Country 2(TM): Diddy's Kong Quest(TM) (SNES(R), 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): In the sequel to the immensely popular Donkey Kong Country(TM), Diddy Kong(R) gets the spotlight, along with his girlfriend, Dixie Kong(TM) -- a great little monkey with a dangerous ponytail.

Donkey Kong 2 Available for Wii

I think one of the coolest thing about the Wii isn't only that you can get old Nintendo games spanning back through four generations of the console, but that you can also get Sega Genesis, Turbo Grafix 16 and other console games as well. I played Toe Jam and Earl for a few hours last weekend on the Wii, and was filled with nostalgia.

In any event, you can get Donkey Kong 2 from Super Nintendo on your Wii now for just 800 Wii credits. Mmmmboy, let the monkey-business begin.

That's right, I went there.

Donkey Kong Country 2, Streets of Rage 2 Hit Wii Virtual Console

The elves mining Nintendo's vaults for classic games have unearthed three new ones to add to the Wii Shop Channel. They feature ragers, lasers and, um, monkeys not in cages. Anyway, it's unlikely that you've played all three of these, so go ahead and check 'em out. Or the elves will cry.

The three new classic games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the channel every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (SNES, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): In the sequel to the immensely popular Donkey Kong Country, Diddy Kong gets the spotlight, along with his girlfriend, Dixie Kong - a great little monkey with a dangerous ponytail.
