Mega event organisers owe responsibility to megapolis

It seems that festivities and recreational and cultural activities in the metropolis have not come to an end with the conclusion last week of arms and military equipment exhibition - the Ideas - at the Expo Centre.

Also at the weekend, the dwellers of this city were given an enthralling opportunity to participate in the fabulous arms display, as the entertainment activity continued at the Peoples Football Stadium in Mauripur till last Saturday night. But much has been left to the distaste of the public as they were not enchanted and wooed enough to forget the hardships and inconvenience they were subjected to during the Ideas expo.

Following the conclusion of Ideas, we have been seeing announcements for other extravaganzas and exhibitions on cultural arena, like wedding ceremonies at the same Expo Centre, the ensuing Kara Film Festival, an education exhibition for the youth seeking higher education in the UK, and musical evenings at Arts Council and Press Club, and last but not the least the Sindh governors announcement for holding Hamara Karachi Festival to commemorate the platinum jubilee of the old KMC building on main MA Jinnah Road.

Enchanted Arms PS3 Gets Release Date

We've known for a while that the Xbox 360 RPG Enchanted Arms would be ported over to the PS3, but until today, we didn't have a release date. From Software has announced the PS3 version is scheduled for a Japanese January 25, 2007 release, and for a price of 8190 yen (about $71).

Originally designed to be a 360 exclusive, the game gives us the story of an enchanter-in-training, Atsuma, who is supposedly destined for greatness as the world's most powerful mage. The title sports over 100 playable and non-playable characters, a traditional turn-based battle mechanic, and a set of secret unlockable creatures that can be added to your combat party. The PS3 port will include all this and more, like added cutscenes and other story elements.

Unfortunately, we're not sure yet if the game's publisher, Ubisoft, plans to release the PS3 version here in the U.S.

Enchanted Arms Review

November 6, 2006 - If someone asked you which role playing game is the most popular, chances are that if youre even somewhat literate in the ways of RPGs than your first thought would be the Final Fantasy series. Best known for their story line and balanced role playing strategy, Square Enix games are almost impossible to forget. So believe me when I say that I would be hard pressed to forget Ubisofts Enchanted Arms. While it is not the most outstanding console game ever, it is the very first Xbox 360 foray into the genre. Enchanted Arms takes place 1,000 years after a conflict called The Golem War. The golems were artificial servants created during the war to carry out any command. Golems were even designed to carry out orders after their master was killed, and resulted in turning the entire world into a wasteland of destruction.

Reel-life bad guy gets real-life arms conviction

Indians were entranced by Sanjay Dutt's portrayal of a middle-aged mobster in this year's biggest movie, Lage Raho Munnabhai. Whether they will be as enchanted by his conviction for arms possession is less certain.

Dutt, one of Bollywood's top stars, was looking even more dishevelled than usual when he arrived on Tuesday for a courtroom scene in Mumbai to hear the verdict: guilty of illegally possessing arms, allegedly bought from gangsters accused of orchestrating India's worst terrorist attack. However, he was not guilty of the more serious charges of involvement in the terrorist conspiracy. He faces up to 10 years in prison, but a sentencing date has not been determined.

"I have not found that he was a terrorist or was destructive," Judge Pramod Kode said. Later, the judge said to Dutt, "I have said that you are not a terrorist".

A Kingdom of Treats

It's rough to start a five-week run of "The Nutcracker" the day after Thanksgiving, but the New York City Ballet does it every year. Perhaps that's why the NYCB dancers, though polished and conscientious, nevertheless seemed a little flat throughout the story telling of Act I on Friday night. And in Act II, in which most of the dancing occurs, the dancers appeared keyed-up, but not quite in the right way: They didn't oversell themselves, but they labored just a little too strenuously at times, they seemed over stimulated. Nevertheless, their determination to put on a good show shone through the evening's entertainment.

NYCB's "The Nutcracker" is a unique experience in the ballet repertory. When the curtain rises on Act I, Marie, the young daughter of the Stahlbaums, peeks through the keyhole of the family salon to glimpse the Christmas preparations going on inside.

Need for Speed Carbon

Electronic Arts decided that they needed to change up the equation a little and they attempted that with Need for Speed Carbon. Whether or not the change is the correct one is a different subject. There are many street racers out on the market nowadays that dilute the genre and make everything feel subnormal. EA is hoping that they can push their way through the crowd and become king of the racers once again. Sadly, Need for Speed: Carbon isn’t the answer to all their prayers.

The most desired mode of play that was missing from Need for Speed: Most Wanted happened to be the drifting mode. After taking a year off and tinkering with the mechanics, EA is ready to reintroduce the mode to the masses. Unfortunately the addition comes with a subtraction; EA has taken the police chases down a notch and decided to focus on team-based racing.
