Impossible Mission Coming to Wii Shop Channel

In its Previews section the June 2007 issue of Nintendo Power confirms that a remake of the Commodore 64 title Impossible Mission will be the first non-VC game offered for download on the Wii Shop Channel.

The game was announced several months ago for the Wii and other platforms including the PSP, PS2, and DS, with System 3 even going so far as to make up mock (and very ugly) box art for the Wii version of the game. What prompted the decision to move it to the Wii Shop Channel is unknown, although we're guessing the game is fairly limited in scope (and small in download size) as a remake of an older title. So while it's not exactly a whiz-bang title to kick the non-VC games service off with, it probably makes a lot of sense to do it.

More downloadable content for Wii from System 3

System 3's CEO, Mark Cale, has confirmed that they have another downloadable Wii game in the works. Alongside previously-announced Wii Ware title Impossible Mission, System 3 is also remaking California Games, another classic Commodore 64 game released by Epyx. California Games was a compilation of several sports minigames: surfing, BMX, Frisbee, Keepy Uppy, half pipe and rollerblading. The update will feature a total of twenty-two events, to be unlocked after earning a gold medal in the first six games. A full list of additional events is not available, yet, but it will include kayaking, cycling, running, javelin throwing, high jumping, and equestrian (presumably something to do with horses). Cale also mentions that there will be some upcoming announcements from Nintendo regarding downloadable content, but what those announcements are he did not say.

Impossible Mission to be Available via Wii Shop Channel

A few weeks ago, we had reported about the Commodore 64 game Impossible Mission that was going to be released on the Wii. Now, according to the official Nintendo Power magazine, the game will be the first original downloadable game on the Wii Shop Channel.

Impossible Mission, just like other modern remakes, will feature the original version of the game. The game will see players take the role of a secret agent who tries to stop evil genius Professor Elvin Atombender. After entering his base, gamers will attempt to pick up parts of the system password at the same time avoiding deadly robots.

Impossible Mission is being developed by System 3 and along with the Nintendo Wii, the game will also release for the PS2, DS and PSP.

C64 Impossible Mission remake headed for Wii Shop Channel

A remake of the Commodore 64 title Impossible Mission, in the works for Nintendo DS as well as Sony's PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable, will be the first non-Nintendo original (and I have to confess, I am using the word "original" a bit loosely hereit is a remake, after all) software to hit the Wii Shop Channel. Nintendo UK confirmed the title is on its way, which was first revealed in the pages of the official Nintendo Power magazine. Impossible Mission is being developed by System 3, and will include both the remade game and a "retro mode" for those who wish to play the classic as it originally appeared. (No word on if Wii owners will need to type LOAD "*",8,1 to start the retro edition.) Nintendo has already brought some original content to the Wii Shop, including the Internet Channel and the Everybody Votes Channel.
