New Midnight Club Unveiled

Rockstar Games has today confirmed Midnight Club: Los Angeles for Xbox 360 and PlayStation, with a broad release date of early 2008. The game, the first instalment in the street racing franchise since 2005's Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition, is currently in development at Rockstar's San Diego studio. "Midnight Club's addictive blend of freedom, style and sheer sense of speed sets it apart from its competition," said Sam Houser, Founder and Executive Producer of Rockstar Games. "With Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Rockstar San Diego looks to once again push the boundaries and expectations of what a racing game can be. Rockstar San Diego has always been the technology leader in delivering the ultimate racing experience, and with this game, they are looking to re-define the idea of a completely immersive racing game experience, both offline and online." "On prior consoles, the Midnight Club franchise continually raised the bar for racing games, evolving from being the first ever street racing game to setting the defining standard for credibly integrating street racing culture with an intense racing experience," said Jay Panek, Producer of the Midnight Club series.

God Of War II Game Review

God Of War II is an epic game on the aging an almost dead Playstion 2 system, showing that even though the next-gen consoles boost graphics, GOW II displays beautiful graphics, very detailed backgrounds, immense environments on an aged system. The first Levels are beyond good, and dare I say it superior to many games I’ve played in years. What makes the first levels or stages so great is that you play as kratos when he’s most powerful, being the God Of war, as he proclaims when you execute his magic attacks. The combat engine is what makes god Of War II different, after you’ve beaten an enemy almost to death, a circle button icon hangs above to indicate that it’s ready to be decapitated or slaughter as only Kratos could.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Review (Xbox 360)

Well, here we are in the final week of May, and we all know whats inevitably coming our way over the next two months: blockbuster summer movies. Yes, this is the time of the year that can make or break a studio, as good reviews and great word of mouth can mean hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office. This actually coincides with the worst time of the year to be a game reviewer. Generally, the only games that are released in the summer are publishers castoffs and licensed movie games, which everyone knows have a history of putrescence. This blockbuster season got off to a rocky start with the Xbox 360 version of Shrek the Third, and were now seeing the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End. At Worlds End is actually a video game adaptation of the second (PotC: Dead Mans Chest) and third (PotC: At Worlds End) films in Gore Verbinskis trilogy.

PS3 firmware to 1.8 - adds 1080p video upscaling

One of the best things about Sony's handheld PSP gaming console is that it is a regular recipient of bug-fixing, feature-enhancing firmware upgrades. By releasing patches periodically Sony has been able to fix glitches as they're discovered and add new functionality such as increased video format support, web browsers and so on. Happily the PS3 is getting much the same treatment and already we find ourselves being updated to version 1.8.

Big news in this installment is the addition of 1080p video upscaling for PS1 and PS2 games and DVD movies. Whilst being able to play old games and watch "old" movies at 1080p resolution provides a marked improvement in video quality over the originals, don't be expecting miracles because the technical wizardry behind video upscaling can only do so much using the standard definition source material.
