We're a generation of 'softies'

It especially struck a chord as Manchester United and Chelsea limped through the FA Cup final like over-burdened sherpas ascending a particularly tricky bit of Everest. He said we'd all gone soft.

Now, whether we should take advice on this from someone once described as being strong enough to throw a fridge to Pluto is open to question. How much academic social analysis does it take to tear a London phone book in half or twist inch-thick steel bars into pretzels? But, on the grounds that he was, for years, Britain's shot-put champion as well as a Cambridgeshire policeman weighing 23st of sheer muscle in his prime, one does not want to put up much of an argument. Clearly he was never going to have much truck with softies. He laments the passing of the days, as he said: "When men were men and sheep were nervous".

Ubisoft Gets More Casual

Major video game publisher Ubisoft has announced an expansion into the ever-growing and lucrative casual games market. The company says it has made significant investments and formed an internal development structure dedicated to the creation of games that appeal a wider audience than the hardcore gamer set. In addition to beefing up its hit Petz franchise, the game maker will introduce a new game series called My Coach.

"Ubisoft has a proven track record of publishing and creating video games for non-traditional gaming audiences, with multimillion-selling brands like Petz and Rayman, says Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. "The timing is right for us to leverage our creativity and to open up the video games market to new consumers who will be attracted by content that can help them learn, grow and feel better in an entertaining way.

Play-offs here we come

Tickets for Blackpool's play-off semi-final games against Oldham have been in more demand in the town this week than Nintendo Wii's were at Christmas.

This is on the back of the Seasiders' magnificent end to the season, which saw them finish in third place in League One after an incredible 6-3 victory at Swansea last Saturday.

The win helped Oldham to stay in the final play-off spot, and the two North-West teams will now battle for a place in the final as Pool over-took Forest on the last day. Forest will play Yeovil in the other semi.

Oy with the Poodles Already: The End of Gilmore Girls

(AXcess News) Hollywood - "Gilmore Girls" draws to a close on May 15th, and I couldn't be more depressed. I'm never one to fall in love with a television show that didn't star yellow cartoon characters, so to watch "Gilmore" end after a seven season run breaks my rusted, cancerous critic heart.

Unlike other TV programs that I've followed from the start, I didn't get in on the ground floor of "Gilmore." After spying a commercial promoting an appearance by The Bangles midway through the first season, I tuned in to spy on my number one rock crush, Susanna Hoffs. What I ended up with was a severe curiosity about this strange show where characters vomited brainy dialogue in atypical Gatling-gun fashion, located in an anti-Mayberry small town populated with the most itchy and socially constipated neighborhood characters I had ever seen.
