Xbox 360 Platinum Hits Out

The first wave of Xbox 360 Platinum Hits is finally out in the Indian market with a promise to offer great value to next generation gaming enthusiasts in the country.

Microsoft has launched the Platinum Hits games lineup for Xbox 360, which essentially includes archetypal games that have sold about a million copies world-wide in a particular category, within a year of launch.

Sharing the idea of the Platinum Hits lineup, Mohit Anand, Country Manager of the Entertainment and Devices Division, Microsoft India, said, "The Platinum Hits program allows existing gamers and new gamers alike to have access to great games at a great price. Not only does the Platinum Hits program offer games at a great value, it also ensures that the platform's best games are available to customers at an amazing price."

The first wave of Platinum Hits includes Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, Elements of Power, and Ninety-Nine Nights.

Dead or Alive 4 delayed in Japan

Another setback today for the ever-looming Xbox 360 launch in Japan on December 10th, with the news that Dead or Alive 4, one of the system's key home grown launch titles, has been delayed by a week and will no longer be available on day one. Hardly a major blow, a week is only a week, but nonetheless an irritation for Redmond who have already witnessed several key delays in this region so crucial to the console's success. Around the December 17th mark it is, then, with IGN revealing that the title is now 95% ready to go and is being polished by Tecmo.

Whilst the Xbox 360 launches in Europe on Friday (with severe stock shortages already forecast), Dead or Alive 4 won't be ready for the continent until January. The Japanese day one line-up now consists of: Ridge Racer 6, Every Party, Perfect Dark Zero, FIFA 06, Tetris Grandmaster and Need for Speed Most Wanted.

Get A PlayStation 3 On Black Friday

The PlayStation 3 has been getting pummeled this week. Personally, I really don't feel it's that bad of a console. When Xbox 360 first launched, it really only had one good game: Perfect Dark Zero. PlayStation 3 faces the same predicament with Resistance: Fall of Man. Sure, there are problems with the interface and with Buy-Ray playback, but the console hasn't even been out for a freakin' week. As much as I love Xbox 360, I feel it's proper to give PlayStation 3 a little bit of time before we start judging it so heavily.

With that being said, if you're still yearning to get your hands on a PlayStation 3, you may be in luck. Kotaku is reporting that stores will be selling PS3s in stock on Black Friday, so if you really want one, grab a sleeping bag and get in front of a retailer as soon as you finish dessert.

Brazilians Will Pay $1400 For the Xbox 360

Kotaku reader Marcelo turned us on to this Reuters piece, detailing the upcoming Brazilian launch of Microsoft's Xbox 360. What I thought was going to be a run of the mill launch in a territory that no one cares about... oops, I mean is largely ignored... turned out to be an eye-opening bit of news.

Microsoft will be the first manufacturer to sell direct to the market in Brazil, where importers reign supreme. But this privelege will come at a price: 2999 reias, which currently exchanges at $1400 US. That's a lot of reias! Tough to swallow, as importers will bring a 360 to you for close to half that price.

The premium console package will be bundled with a few games, Project Gotham Racing 3, Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo: Elements of Power, which makes the steel-booted kick in the wallet a little easier (games retail for close to $75).

Dark matter hides, physicists seek

Scientists don't know what dark matter is, but they know it's all over the universe. Everything humans observe in the heavensgalaxies, stars, planets and the restmakes up only 4 percent of the universe, scientists say. The remaining 96 percent is composed of dark matter and its even more mysterious sibling, dark energy.

Scientists recently found direct evidence that dark matter exists by studying a distant galaxy cluster and observing different types of motion in luminous versus dark matter. Still, no one knows what dark matter is made of.

Now, a pioneering international project co-led by Stanford physicist Blas Cabrera may finally crack the case and pin down the elusive particles that form dark matter.

"It's harder and harder to get away from the fact that there is a substance out there that's making up most of the universe that we can't see," says Cabrera.

Tips for Purchasing a Christmas Telescope

Your father is retiring soon and your mother wants him to pick up a hobby so he'll stay out of her hair. The problem is that she wants you to choose one for him so she can present him with a Christmas gift that says "I love you and here's what you'll be doing." You're so clever about these things, she flatters you, then smiles and hands you a blank check.

As you stand there in stunned disbelief, watching her tires smoke as she races away from your house, you begin to work the problem. First, you know he has a bad back, so your options come down to the more sedentary. Poker? No. You want your cut of the estate someday. Gardening? Stamps? Model airplanes? Painting? Birdwatching? No. No. No. No. No - wait. He used to point out birds to you during the day on those camping trips, then at night, he'd point out the stars.
