Dead Rising for Real in the Name of Child's Play

I was recently invited by KISS 103.3 of Boise, Idaho to spend 4 nights and five days at the Boise Town Square Mall, a sprawling complex that will be very dark, very empty, and very creepy at night. Anyone that's played Dead Rising or watches horror movies will tell you that this is the beginning of a bad scenario. The main character of my story, which is me, is going to spend a number of nights in the dark hallways of an expansive and empty mall with four strangers. I don't know the details yet, but at some point this story will end with us defending the Plush bean bag store against a hoard of undead creatures with nothing but a chainsaw and 8 bullets in a Beretta. Mark my words. To help counter-balance the blow of learning that the world will soon end, you might be happy to know that I might win a PS3.

WIN! Phantasy Star Universe stuff!

Sega's Phantasy Star series has recently returned to the videogame world in Phantasy Star Universe on PC, Xbox 360 and PS2, and to get all happy about its launch we've teamed with the publisher to give away PSU soundtrack CDs, a graphics card and PSU art books that have been signed by Takao Miyoshi - producer on the game.Phantasy Star Universe combines planet-hopping, online RPG action-adventuring in the Gurhal system with a single-player campaign that focuses on the plight of 17-year old cadet Ethan Waber. Events in the campaign kick off when Waber rescues his sister at the Guardians, a colony under siege by mysterious life forms known as The Seed.

Gifts that can't be refused

Mark Winegardner's "The Godfather's Revenge" is the third and final installment of the Corleone saga that pits Michael against Nick Geraci, a turncoat who was once a top earner for the family. It's just one of the suggestions for holiday gift-giving. Here are others: .

Phantasy Star Universe multiplayer video tutorial

I'll admit it: there are times I turn to FAQs for help in getting through RPGs for those times when you just simply can't move forward in the game. Sigh... Recently though, we find that Phantasy Star Universe for the Xbox 360 and PC is no different (particularly because of the non-interactive interface, and the world, and combat tutorials in the 360 demo), so while the honorable player will still insist on earning his level-ups the hard way, he is not as foolish as to ignore some Word from the Wise.

And the Wiseman for today is Ben Harrison, product manager at Sega of America, who comes to us with this multiplayer tutorial video clip which was generously provided by Sega and IGN. He will walk you though the important steps of navigating the world of PSU, from character creation to combat central.

Phantasy Star Universe Review (Xbox 360)

The video game industry is all about delivering the next big thing. Whatever past games have done, developers must enhance and perfect the dynamics they used in order to create something new and powerful. It sounds easy enough, but its amazing how many games are hitting the streets, here in the next-generation, that simply deliver nothing in the way of new and original ideas. For an Xbox Live Arcade game thats perfectly permissible, but for a sixty-dollar investment, gamers are in need of just a bit more. Phantasy Star Universe represents the most recent entry in the hallowed RPG series by SEGAs uber-respected Sonic Team. The series previous incarnation, Phantasy Star Online, permanently changed the way people think about console RPGs by delivering a cohesive online world. Though the Dreamcast died long ago, the changes that the system brought are still very much alive, as is evidenced in Phantasy Star Universe.

Phantasy Star Universe expands wider this weekend

Remember when it was hinted at that Phantasy Star Universe (360, PC, and PS2) was going to get new downloadable content? Well, the date is set. Thanksgiving weekend is coming up. Do you know where your family is? If you're the type of person who'd rather say that their family is in another universe, then listen up.

PSU just got bigger. Now you can enjoy more hours with your friends online and take a crack at some new content. While your mom (your real mom in the real world, that is) takes out the turkey from the oven for dinner, Sega of America is serving up eight, yes EIGHT, new missions for you guys during the long weekend.

One of which is Moatoob. Even though this area is already accessible in single player, it's going to be opened up for multiplayer. See? It's all about family this weekend! Also, just in case those big baddies from Moatoob are beating you badly into a pulp, the download will also open up the Tenora Weapon counter and new upgrades will now be available.

Download and Burn Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Superman

Time Warner plans to offer services that let consumers download movies from the Internet that can be burned onto DVDs in 2007. Warner's top executive said on Tuesday that the company would likely make the movies available to download on the same day and date the DVDs go on sale. "I expect we will be in a download-to-burn mode in 2007 -- It will be a part of next year's offerings," Richard Parsons, chief executive and chairman of Time Warner, said at the third annual Reuters Media Summit in New York. Time Warner owns the following movie involved companies: Warner Bros, Warner Independent, New Line Cinema, Castle Rock Entertainment, Turner Entertainment, HBO, TBS, TNT, CW, AOL, and Moviefone.com. Warner Bros is responsible for the Batman, Harry Potter, Matrix, Lethal Weapon and Superman series of films.

Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded

We like a good retro compilation, with the Taito Legends duo, Sonic Mega Collection and the first two Midway Arcade Treasures collections being the very definition of good. Capcom Classics Collection Remixed - released on PSP only a few months ago - didn't make that list, as it was missing Street Fighter II and Ghouls 'n Ghosts. But now that they're here, on both this tiny UMD and in our hands, we're reminded of an old saying: be careful what you wish for. Street Fighter II - available in normal, World Championship Edition and Hyper Fighting flavours - brought back plenty of gooey nostalgia, but the PSP's d-pad isn't really suitable for pulling off dragon punches and whatnot. Don't even try to do it with the analogue slider - more often than not Ken and Ryu ending up jumping all over the place instead of performing a hurricane kick.

The Lord of the Rings: The White Council

The Lord of the Rings: The White Council is an all-new role playing game (RPG) for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, and PC. The game, inspired by the New Line Cinema feature film trilogy that grossed more than $3 billion, will feature an original storyline derived from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings novels under an agreement with EA. The game is scheduled to ship in late 2007. Players have the freedom to explore the open world of Tolkien's Middle-earth in The Lord of the Rings, The White Council. Players can choose their role as a man, an elf, a dwarf, or a hobbit. Each role's destiny is to become a hero allied with the White Council, whose members include the famed characters Gandalf, Saruman, Galadriel, and Elrond. A combination of stunning graphics and expansive environments, along with the freedom of movement demonstrates the innovation and quality of the next-generation RPG, where players can create their own adventures.
