Age of Conan – Hyborian Adventures trailer

Funcom has released a new trailer for for Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, showcasing their upcoming action MMORPG that features both a single-player and a multiplayer part and takes the Conan universe very seriously with focus on three aspects: Roam, fight and reign.

The trailer runs for a minute with in-game fly-by footage from the Conall's Valley area of the game. .

Death in many ways in Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures screens

Conan has seized the throne and his rule is heading towards a downward spiral. Chaos is inevitable, if it isn't already happening. Vengeful gods are making people's lives miserable. Mythological creatures are abroad. And every man and woman must forge their own destiny in the Hyborian Age.

This is the setting of Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. In this game, gamers will be able to immerse themselves in the land of Aquilonia in either of two modes: 1) an online single-player RPG adventure, or 2) a dynamic MMO that hosts guilds, missions, and raids. While the game is based on the short stories of Robert E. Howard, Funcom's decided to keep faithful with the author's tone and graphic content, and expect their game to be rated by the ESRB as Mature.

No qualms there.

Age of Conan Screenshots

Funcom has released new screenshots from "Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures," giving viewers more of a look at the upcoming MMORPG. "In 'Conan' the players will encounter a dark, lush, violent and sinful universe, presented in fantastic graphics and stunning 7.1 surround audio. In a world filled with cruel gods, mythical creatures, lost civilizations and a struggling human race, the mighty barbarian has finally seized the throne as king of Aquilonia. But Conan's rule is on the brink of chaos, spiraling towards the doom of ancient evils. In this twisted fantasy world, dark magic and brutal combat lurks around every corner, and each man and woman must carve their own unique destiny under Conan's reign. In the true vision of Robert E. Howard's dark universe it's now time for you to become a messenger of death." .

The scenic route in Age of Conan: Conall's Valley

Today's CGI fly-through of Conall's Valley, one of the many scenic locations in Funcom's Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, will take you through a lush forest, towering peaks, and the odd shattered settlement or two. Located in the Broken Leg Glen region of Hyboria (hopefully "Broken Leg" doesn't refer to your character's fate here), the valley is home to the usual threats: wildlife, marauders, a deeper evil from the region's past - surely nothing you can't handle alone.

Accommodations are rather rustic, a throwback to a more primitive past of thatched huts and smoky campfires. What did you expect, the Queen Elizabeth II? Although, with the wildlife, marauders, and evil, any rest you can grab is only temporary. But what are you, a barbarian or Sassy McPrissyPants?

The Download link below will take you through the flythrough.

Nobody wants to be lonely in Age of Conan

At least the first twenty character levels of Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures is supposed to be, for the most part, a single-player experience. A single-player quest, or "destiny quest". At least that was the Funcom devs' intent. If there was going to be any MMO experience during this "destiny quest" phase (or else, why call it an MMORPG?), it would be in "communal areas" for, in the devs' own words, social interaction and "drunken brawls".

Hey, from our perspective, a drunken brawl's a good enough reason to socialize in an MMO world (are we talking about early PvP here, Funcom? Maybe not...). But we digress.

But things change during beta tests. Players give their opinions, or they rant, or they ask for certain features to be included in the game. So in the latest Behind the Scenes feature from the community site, the devs reveal that, within this single player-centric "destiny quest" portion of the game, they're throwing in a multiplayer co-op dungeon/area to play in as a team.

Just Cause developer picks up PathEngine

PathEngine is very pleased to announce that their SDK for intelligent agent movements just got upgraded. On top of that, the company is also very proud that Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios took notice of their program and will be using it for future multi-platform projects.

The software, that goes by the same name as its developer, is aimed to implement points-of-visibility pathfinding on three-dimensional ground meshes. The latest version, v5.05, includes support for the generation of pathfinding ground meshes, directly from un-marked-up 3D scene representations. With the inclusion of arbitrary polygon soups, run-time, and resulting movements becomes much easier to understand.

Furthermore, Avalanche Studios, wouldn't divulge yet the title or the nature of its upcoming title.
