Gamers answer "Call of Duty"

GARNERVILLE - One would think that after shamelessly killing nearly two dozen people with an arsenal of assorted guns and grenades, you would show a little restraint.

But there was only joy in 13-year-old Stephen Berkowitz's eyes as he hoisted his Xbox 360 controller in the air last night at the Haverstraw King's Daughters Library.

"I got 22!" Berkowitz said as he high-fived friends.

Not bad for 10 minutes of simulated wartime carnage. The pixilated bloodshed was part of the library's "Call of Duty 2" tournament, at which 25 North Rockland sixth- through 12th-graders competed for a copy of a "Call of Duty 3" Xbox 360 game and a $25 Best Buy gift card.

It was the third time this year that the library hosted such an event, said Patrice Gottfried, the library's director of teen services.

It's amazing how shabby your living room suddenly looks after you take the latest PlayStation console out of the box. The PlayStation 3 is all sleek lines and chrome accents, like a Sub-Zero refrigerator and a Porsche 911 had a wild weekend of sex -- ending up with an 11-pound, 20-gigabyte love child.

Life would be so much better if we could all just live in our PS3. And if you're dead set on getting one this holiday season, that might be the only housing option you have left.

Call of Duty 3 - Review Xbox 360

Although there has been a change of development team and the game takes you through a comparable World War II scenario Call of Duty 3 is easily as good as its predecessor with sound and graphics to die for. Built from the ground-up, Call of Duty 3 takes full advantage of next-generation technology and a new physics engine to deliver a living battlefield where cover is ripped apart by gunfire and explosions; blades of grass are trampled beneath tank treads and soldiers' feet and uniforms wrinkle and fold like real fabric.
