Xbox Live is Down Today for Maintenance

Microsoft has scheduled another 1 day down time for Xbox Live to do some maintenance. Apparently it is not the Fall Update for the Xbox 360.

Update Oct. 18th
Xbox Live is Online Again.

It is the same story as it happend in May. I actually was not aware of the scheduled downtime, but I got so many Google hits (query: xbox live down) on the story from May that had to I look into it.

The almighty Microsoft is still not able to stage Xbox Live and switch the system with the updated code. They still take it down for the day. It is amazing. Are people getting back the subscription fee for the two days this year the service was offline? They really should.

Sony claims Xbox 360 requires HD DVD, etc., thus costs $700

Ok, here's a new one: with Sony's announcements today they've issued a titled "Next-generation Console Comparison Fact Sheet," (downloadable here [DOC]) so let's see some facts. First up, were you aware that to use your Xbox 360 Core system you're required to buy the 20GB drive add-on, an HD DVD drive, a wireless controller, and an Xbox Live sub? We weren't either. But hey, it says right there, "requires users to buy" and this is, in fact, a "fact sheet." Of course, none of that's actually true, and what's more, were one to use the Xbox 360 Premium console pack in that chart instead of the Core pack, the total would be $399 for a console with that very same hard drive, wireless controller, and Xbox Live Silver subscription (which provides access to everything but multiplayer) -- remember, kids, an HD DVD drive is not required to do anything but watch high def movies -- it has nothing to do with high def gaming.

Doom Cheats, Codes and Secrets - Xbox 360

The following achievements can be earned by playing DOOM on the Xbox 360. Doom is available as an Xbox Live Arcade download in the Xbox Live Marketplace.

CLEAN SLATE - 5 gamerscore points. Kill all monsters in level on 'Hurt Me Plenty' or higher.

DESTROYER - 10 gamerscore points. Get 100 kills on Xbox Live.

EPISODE FOUR - 25 gamerscore points. Complete Episode 4 on 'Hurt Me Plenty' or higher.

EPISODE ONE - 25 gamerscore points. Complete Episode 1 on 'Hurt Me Plenty' or higher.

EPISODE THREE - 25 gamerscore points. Complete Episode 3 on 'Hurt Me Plenty' or higher.

EPISODE TWO - 25 gamerscore points. Complete Episode 2 on 'Hurt Me Plenty' or higher.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 Cheats - Xbox 360 at a Price

Electronic Arts made a new move in the video game industry with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 when they made the decision to charge for downloadable cheat codes. This opens the door for gamers to ask many questions about the future of on-line gaming, and more questions about the monetary impacts to the industry itself.

For a certain number of Microsoft Points via the Xbox Live Marketplace gamers can download cheat codes for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07, unlocking various items within the game. Here is what is available on the Marketplace: Own Everything in the Pro Shop - 300 points. Sunday Tiger - Marketplace Exclusive - 240 points. Unlock Courses - 200 points. Unlock Golfers - 200 points. Maxed Out Player - 200 points.

So there you have it, pay an additional 1,140 Microsoft Points (in addition to the cost of the game) and you virtually have everything unlocked and a super stats player (with all stats set to 110).

Sims on a Mother F'n Plane

September 24, 2006 - EA announced that it is going to bring The Sims to in-flight entertainment whereas people traveling on planes can, well; play The Sims games: Today Electronic Arts and DTI Software (provider of in-flight entertainment) announced a partnership that will bring The Sims 2 and titles from Pogo.com (EA's casual games site) to airlines worldwide.

EA could not provide any details about what The Sims 2 on a plane would be like, but a representative confirmed for us that it would be controlled as most in-flight games are: passengers will use the remote control attached to their arm rest and view the game on the screen attached to the back of the seat in front of them.

100GB Hard Drive for Xbox Coming

Microsoft announced in Korea Thursday that it plans to deliver a 100-gigabyte hard drive add-on for the Xbox 360. The current premium version of the console comes with a 20GB hard drive. The news came at the company's X06 conference, but no specific timetable was set.

With 100GB of storage, Microsoft could more easily position the Xbox as a full-blown media center for the living room. In addition, users would have more space to store Xbox Live downloads, and potentially even music and video purchases in the future. The add-on is expected to arrive in Korea next March, but a United States launch, as well as pricing, are still unknown.

Colorado 14ers ---> With heavy, wet snowflakes painting the landscape Tuesday, a construction crew was forced to hold a tarp over their co-workers laying a sidewalk leading to the Broomfield Event Center. Finishing touches are being applied to the BEC and there's no time to stop.

Colorado's newest entertainment facility will open Nov. 9 with a Bonnie Raitt concert, followed by the home opener of the Rocky Mountain Rage minor league hockey team the next night. "We'll probably be working up to an hour before the Bonnie Raitt concert," one construction worker quipped during the Daily Camera's tour of the BEC. But the truth is, 99 percent of the work is done and officials are ready to show off the BEC.

The 6,000-seat arena was built at a cost of about $45 million to house minor league hockey and basketball teams, as well as concerts and family entertainment events such as the circus, ice capades, trade shows and graduations.

Firebirds fall in OT

Blaine Juhl showed perseverance when the referee called his goal off in the second half on Thursday. The Free State High soccer team trailed Shawnee Mission Northwest by a goal. Juhl's shot would have tied it up, but the Firebirds were offside.

First Look: Gunpey

Originally created for Bandai's ill-fated WonderSwan system, in 1999 by the legendary late great game developer Gunpei Yokoi (responsible for producing the original Metroid, designing the GameBoy, and Virtual Boy), Q Entertainment resurrects the classic Gunpey puzzle game for the handheld market.

Gunpey's premise, like most puzzle games, is simplistically simple. Players will be tasked to connect lines that appear at the bottom of the screen across a 5 X 10 grid to eliminate the lines. If the lines stack up to the screen, game over. While that seems super manageable, when the game starts running the advanced settings, you'll be in for some hectic gameplay. r4 dsi
