Battlefield 2142 Patch Released

Accompanying the official launch of EA's latest Battlefield game in the US and Canada is this 17MB launch day patch, which fixes a client side crash issue on Titan Mode.

You'd think that they'd catch this one during the closed beta phase, but such is the fate of all Battlefield games I guess. One thing is for sure, fans of the series are expecting better support than what they got with Battlefield 2.

Need for Speed Carbon Hands-On (Xbox 360)

Carbon fiber. This super-light textile is mixed with resins to produce some of the strongest, stiffest composites known to man. Although carbon-fiber composite is used in many places, its commonly put to work in the motorsports industry, for everything from mega-downforce wings to entire monocoque chassis. Therefore, its pretty fitting that EA named its latest extreme racer Need for Speed Carbon (dropping the fiber makes sense to gearheads), as the fans of the series and die-hard racers will instantly know whats up. .

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Fan Day Tour

Imagine my surprise, two weeks ago, when I got an email from Activision inviting me to spend a day at Raven Software's studio, touring the facility, having a Q&A session between serious Marvel fans and the development team and playing their upcoming game, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, on the Xbox 360. Needless to say, I was excited. I had to go, not just because I really wanted to get my hands on the game and check out the studio, but to ensure that you, our dear readers, get the inside look at how the games are brought to you.

Review: Flight Simulator X

If you ask a group of ten-year-olds what they want to be when they grow up, I'm almost willing to bet you'll hear at least one who wants to be a captain of a jumbo jet. Most people eventually shelve this idea and end up working in a regular job, then one day they wonder, what if? What if I had decided to pursue a career as an airline pilot instead of working as a garbage-man? Well (according to the box) Microsoft's flight simulator has been around for twenty-five years to give a taste of what life could have been like. Let's see if Microsoft's latest effort will please all the childhood fantasies that you ever had, I am of course referring to Flight Simulator X (FS X). Installing: As any fan of the Flight Simulator will know, the series has long required an installation time matched only by the construction of the Great Wall of China and FS X is no exception.

Dickensian night back on calendar

Last year the celebration was replaced by Ware's Christmas Cracker, but this year, in an Oliver Twist to the tale, it will be given back its traditional title.

Keith Batchelor, the Dick-ensian Evening committee chairman, said: "It's back. Everybody at the public meeting we had said 'Why have they changed the name? Let's change it back'.

"We want everyone to get behind it and support the event. It's a great community celebration and we'd love everyone to get involved."

Entertainment lined up includes music from local bands and a barrel organ, and a performance by female morris dancers Hertfordshire Holly. There will be stalls in High Street and Tudor Square, where there will also be a carol service at 7pm.

It is hoped that the Drill Hall, in Amwell End, will host a farmers' market.
