HD DVD for Microsoft Xbox 360 coming this November

Software company Microsoft has said that they would be launching the much-anticipated HD DVD drive add-on for its Xbox 360 console in November.

This drive is expected to be available for the Xbox 360 in Japan starting November 22. It is expected to be priced around ¥19,800 (US$168).

This information was released by Takashi Sensui, general manager of the Xbox division of Microsoft's Japanese subsidiary.

This is great news for the owners of the Xbox 360 gaming console, as it would allow them to watch high-definition HD DVD video content on a compatible television set. Sensui spoke on this announcement: “For those who already own the Xbox 360 system it'll cost only ¥19,800 to enjoy HD DVD. That's by far the most affordable solution for those people."

This drive would help Microsoft challenge the upcoming competition from Sony, which has included the competing Blu-Ray format drive in their upcoming Sony Playstation 3 gaming console also scheduled for launch in November.

Does the Xbox have the X-factor?

So now gamers can drive without having to fear that speed kills, fight without worrying to be sued and explore realms that reach beyond imagination, all just with the touch of an Xbox controller.

The gaming industry is currently undergoing a "360 degree" gaming revolution – enter the X-box, Microsoft’s most recent addition to the gaming industry.

Witsies were given the opportunity to test the Xbox on East Campus, a few days before the official launch on September 29.

Although in general the guys were keener to face the heat and stand in the long queues to show their gaming skills, a few inquisitive members of the opposite sex gave in to the temptation of seeing what the Xbox was all about.

Lloyd Cindi, an international relations third-year student, said that the Xbox was "mind-blowing" and he would definitely do whatever it took to get his hands on one of them.

PC Game Review: Battlefield 2142

Yes, EA and Dice are at it again with the newest installment of the Battlefield franchise. Boasting that ever familiar 64-player, arcade styled, jump-into-any-vehicle-at-any-time, team killing, explosion filled, sniper-whoring, and spawn-camping fest that we lovingly call the "Battlefield Multiplayer Experience," and oh how we love it so.

This game will be familiar to anyone who has played Battlefield 2, so familiar in fact that Battlefield 2142 almost seems like a mod, or a flimsy upgrade with higher system requirements (and this game is quite demanding). It has the same squad-system, commander system, and ranking system.

The story is pretty basic, it's set in the 22nd Century, after a new ice age in which the ice from the North Pole spreads and pretty much destroys hundreds of countries including North America.

Microsoft to Design Its Own Chips, Xbox 360 Successor Already in ...

Both Peter Moore, corporate VP of the Entertainment and Devices Division of Microsoft, and Chris Lewis, the Regional VP of Xbox Europe, confirmed in an interview with Kikizo that the software giant is already working on the successor to the Xbox 360. "As soon as you develop something, it's old", Lewis told Kikizo: "Of course we're thinking about that... we're constantly thinking about the next thing, we have to. It's my point about complacency - you can't sit back on your laurels in this business - the consumer won't let you, the developers certainly won't let us. So that's happening right now.
