It's a role-playing gamer's heaven this week: "Final Fantasy XII" for PlayStation 2 and "Neverwinter Nights 2" for PC both hit the streets.

"Need for Speed: Carbon" for Xbox 360. The series has been strong all along, and you know how beautiful this next-gen version is going to look.

"Blitz: The League" for Xbox 360. The premise was good in this no-holds-barred look at football, but the execution didn't live up to the hype.

Final Fantasy XII Leaked on Torrent Sites

The North American version of Final Fantasy XII, Square Enix's next installment in its long-running RPG series, has been leaked online. The full version of the game has appeared on Torrent download sites and, sources say, the files do in fact contain the full version of the game.

Final Fantasy XII was released in Japan earlier this year and is due out on October 31 in North America. The origin of the pirated copy of the game is still unknown, but if the original infringement is discovered, it's expected that Square Enix will take legal action.

The rumors sprouted shortly after it was announced that the highly-anticipated Xbox 360 title Gears of War had been leaked online, but that rumor turned out to be false.

Square Enix has yet to comment on the leak.

American Final Fantasy XII leaked

An early version of Square Enix highly anticipated Final fantasy XII (US version) was briefly available yesterday in the pirating scene. However, a swift legal action by Square Enix caused the file to disappear from pirate torrent sites within hours. Thus there was no confirmation that the file indeed featured the game it may just have been a hoax. Some people claimed that it was in English and fully playable, though.

Its a shame that Square Enix hard work on one of the (with all probability) best PS2 games ever was so close to being spoiled by pirates. This incident happened only a few days after another supposed leak, when a Gears of War copy appeared.

Final Fantasy XII: Chris's Ivalician Journey (page 3)

What the Force is to Star Wars, the Mist is to Final Fantasy XII. And just like the Jedi of Star Wars, certain individuals and races within Final Fantasy XII are senstive to the balance of the all-encompassing mystical energy.

This sensitivity helps some to channel the Mist in order to perform extraordinary combat maneuvers, sometimes referred to as a quickening. Powerful Espers can also be summoned to fight alongside those proficient with the Mist, though the Esper must first be defeated before this opportunity becomes available.

However, the Mist isn't solely a combat aide. For example, the Viera warrior Fran is able to navigate dungeons by following the flow of the Mist.

Sony Announces Silver PlayStation 2

Even though the slim silver PlayStation 2 has been out just about everywhere for a while, Sony didn't release an "official" announcement for the limited edition system until earlier today. Sony stated,

Six years after its initial launch, the PlayStation 2 continues to enjoy nonstop success, outselling all other consoles. The introduction of this limited edition model is sure to be a hit this holiday season with die-hard PlayStation fans and new gamers alike

The new PlayStation 2 is on sale for $130, which isn't too bad with Final Fantasy XII (coming out tomorrow), God of War 2 and some other good games coming out in the next year. Seeing how the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will be pricey (compared to the PS2), the new silver PS2 would make for a good Christmas present to someone who doesn't already have one.

Leaked Final Fantasy XII all over the Internet. Someone found a ...

There was a to-do about Gears of War being leaked a day or so ago, and while that turned out to be fake, the Final Fantasy XII leak is very real. For obvious reasons, I'm not going to link you to it, nor will I ever endorse or condone piracy so I really hope you don't discuss it here if you decide to grab it. It's not hard to find, especially when Digg.com has a link to it on their front page. This has to be the easiest pirated game to find, and being on the front page of Digg is pretty much an advertisement at this rate.

I wonder how that works though. Is this something that Digg plans on taking down? Posting links to warez is a bad thing to become known for; I'm not sure if they could be legally at risk here, but I think it's safe to say that's not a risk they should want to take.

Producers Dish Info On Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings

Japan's Dengeki DS Style recently interviewed Motumo Toriyama and Eisuke Yokoyama, and the two offered up some previously-unknown information about the game. Revenant Wings will take place after Final Fantasy XII, meaning that those who've played the original game can see what happens to some of the characters after the original story is finished.

The battle system is loosely based on Final Fantasy XII, but has been simplified and tweaked quite a bit. In fact, it has more new mechanics than old, but some familiar elements have been kept so fans of the original game won't be confused. The main game will reportedly be fully playable with the DS stylus, as well. Characters Vaan, Fran, and Balthier from Final Fantasy XII have been confirmed as playable, and there are several other playable characters as well, reportedly more in Revenant Wings than in Final Fantasy XII.

Silver PlayStation 2 Officially Announced

Despite the PS3 and Wii consoles being oh-so-close to launching for our greedy little faces, there are actually pretty decent PS2 games due out in the next year. That's why Sony's announcing the release of a limited edition Silver PS2, which will retail for $130 and come with one DualShock controller.

If your PS2 is about to break, or if you really want to torment your kid who wanted a PS3 but was a spoiled little brat this year, grab one of these and play through Final Fantasy XII, God of War 2, and whatever else is coming this season. Oh, and maybe you can save up these PS2 controllers for use on your PS3. – Jason Chen

Final Fantasy XII Leaked to Net

Ouch. Final Fantasy XII, the latest entry in Square Enix's most popular role-playing game series, looks to have been leaked out to the Net in its entirety nearly one month prior to its October 31 release date.

A quick scan of sites hosting up BitTorrent downloads would seem to indicate that this is very much real -- there wouldn't be so many torrents and so many downloaders if it was a fake.

Will this affect sales of the final product? It's unlikely that we'll ever really know, as there's not exactly any way to measure it. Square Enix can't be having a happy Tuesday, though.

COMING SOON: Final Fantasy XII

The long wait is almost over. Gamers in the United States can now count the days until "Final Fantasy XII" is in their hands, ending the years of excitement that began in 2003. However, for RPG fanatics who need a sneak peek, we've got some impressions directly from the latest playable English version of the game.

Because it is such a radical shift for the series, the battle system in "Final Fantasy XII" is what has been attracting the most attention. All actions occur in real time as players move through large areas with freely roaming enemies -- elements that often appear in the massively multiplayer online genre.

Now that we've delved into the game's Gambit system (which manages your allies' artificial intelligence), we can say that the similarities to massively multiplayer games don't stop there.

October 11 = Final Fantasy XII Day

In honor of Final Fantasy XII's release on October 31 in North America, October 11, 2006 will be made Final Fantasy XII Day in New York City. Festivities will include a press conference and the announcement of cosplay contest winners. Daishiro Okada, president and COO of Square Enix, and Akitoshi Kawazu, executive producer of Final Fantasy XII, will both be in attendance.

The event will take place in the New York City Visitor's Center in Times Square at 1560 Broadway, between 46th and 47th Streets, NYC 10036. Additionally, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XII will be on display at DigitalLife 2006 at New York City's Javits Center, booth #1422. DigitalLife will run from October 12 - 15, 2006.
