Get ready to build your fantasy team By Mike Bowen TIMES WEST VIRGINIAN (FAIRMONT, W.V.) An estimated 8.5 million people can't possibly be wrong, right?

Game Review: Lumines Live!

I've been mulling over this review ever since I bought Lumines Live. I've been looking forward to the game for months, and Lumines on the PSP is the only game I've ever given a perfect score to in a front page review. It's easy to like Lumines on the 360; it looks and sounds great on a high-definition display and going through a surround sound system. It becomes quite the little A/V treat, in fact. It also includes both online and local multiplayer, and that's almost worth the price of admission right there. That's the thing though: the price of admission.

The game costs 1200 points, which is $15. That's not cheap for an Arcade game, and only $5 less than the PSP version. The problem is you'll constantly hit the base pack's limits when you play. That's right, you just buy the frame the other for-pay add-ons will attach to.

Your Mother Plays Video Games

Popcap Games, creators of the wildly popular video game Bejeweled, has released a study which profiles casual game players. Casual games, which are graphically simple and do not require the large time commitment of online games like World of Warcraft, are by far the most popular game types in the US, with 29% of video game players rating them as their favorite genre in a May 2006 study sponsored by AOL. In this light, action games like Halo are an also-ran to casual alternatives like the numerical puzzle game sudoku.

Yet most casual games are either free or played via low-cost subscription, compared to Halo 2's $125 million opening day retail take. Why should marketers bother with what some might see as a mass market of cheapskates? Simply put, because that is where the eyeballs are.

Strange Flavour working on two more 360 camera games

Other titles supporting the camera include UNO, which is provided free with the peripheral, World Series Poker from Activision, Ubisoft's Rainbow Six: Vegas and Texas Hold 'Em, which is expected to receive an auto-update within weeks.

Speaking at a launch event in Central London this morning, Microsoft revealed that other publishers are currently considering how to make use of the camera, with EA Sports said to be "thinking about it."

One thing that isn't being planned at the moment is cross-platform chats between Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 users, despite the fact that the camera itself works with Windows as a simple USB webcam.

The Xbox Live Vision camera is available from Friday priced GBP 34.99 and comes with an Xbox Live headset, a copy of UNO and one month free Xbox Live Gold access.

SMF downs shorthanded Mover, Kinpachi triumphs

Samahan ng Manggagawang Filipino easily handled a shorthanded Mover team, while Kinpachi-Bank of Saipan made short work of UFO-Apollo's as the 2006 MDX Coca-Cola Cup resumed Saturday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.SMF took advantage of the absence of big men Dalewin Cortez, Glenn Aquino, and Eric Dalangin to rout previously undefeated Mover, 90-70. Both teams are now tied with 2-1 win-loss records.Mover went down early as human pogo stick Leo Itaas and sharpshooter Gary Cayetano took turns burning the hoop, scoring eight points apiece allowing SMF to zoom to a 29-10 lead after the first quarter. It was more of the same in the second, as Cayetano connected on three attempts from rainbow country, while drawing inside support from center Ruther Demigillo to give SMF a commanding 55-33 advantage at the half.Mover tried to make a game of it at the start of the second half, as rookie sensation Ryan Sanciango and burly Joy Dayrit combined to trim their deficit to 16 points in several occasions. But SMF was not about to let Mover get rolling and clutch shots from veterans Jun Tabora and Bernard Montano reestablished the team's dominance ahead 71-51 entering into the fourth and final quarter. It was essentially garbage time in the payoff period, but things got a bit testy when Dayrit collided with Itaas on several occasions.

Sony busts down mod-chip retailer with $9 mil. lawsuit

Everybody's favorite far-reaching, possibly free speech-infringing law, the DMCA, is being put to use again for busting down on Divineo, a seller of mod-chips. Sony has slapped them with a $9 million lawsuit for selling the chips, along with HDLoader, which allows a PS2 to rip games and store them to a HDD for "jukebox" access. Until recently, Divineo was selling a whole bevy of Xbox, Xbox 360, PSOne, PS2, GameCube and other system mod-chips. They've also got other slightly more innocuous devices like that snazzy 4GB DS-Xtreme which gives you homebrew action on the DS without any hacking. Though, we're not sure such attempts of theirs at semi-legibility will do much to appease Sony. There's no official response from Divineo yet, but since they're a France-based company, it seems like the best Sony can do with the DMCA is get them out of the states.

Covering star will be Harris' challenge

BLACKSBURG -- For a guy who will be facing the best college wide receiver in the country Saturday at Lane Stadium, Virginia Tech's Victor Harris isn't exactly hanging on tenterhooks.

If Harris is a bit fearful about taking on Georgia Tech All-American receiver Calvin Johnson, the Hokies' sophomore cornerback never tipped his hand Tuesday. Hey, maybe this is why the kid is called "Macho."

"Oh, definitely, this is a dream you dream for right here," Harris said. "That's what you come to the ACC for right here. It don't get no better."

If Harris is singing the same words Saturday night, it should translate into good news for No. 11 Virginia Tech (4-0, 2-0 ACC). After all, one doesn't need to be a CIA agent to deduce that any team wanting to survive against No. Online games
