UK Video Game Chart: FIFA nets a hat-trick

Despite seeing a 52% dip in sales, FIFA 07 continues to hold strong at the top of the All Formats chart. The game is currently slightly behind the sales of FIFA 06, but there's still the release of the Xbox 360 version on October 27 to bolster the numbers.

Scarface: The World is Yours debuts at No.2 and moves Lego Star Wars II down a place to No.3. Eidos' all out action title, Just Cause, holds at No.4 and EA's Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 slips to No.5, but has the Xbox 360 release to look forward to on October 27. The second highest new entry comes from Championship Manger 2007 at No.9, in turn kicking LMA Manager 2007 down to No.15. Microsoft's Flight Simulator X also makes a solid start, entering the chart at No.19.

As predicted, Open Season's movie release sees the video game propel up the chart, now residing at No.17, and Vivendi's World of Warcraft makes a chart re-entry at No.33.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X

Microsoft Flight Simulator X is an incredible piece of software, providing almost unbelievable capabilities for a consumer product. Unfortunately, on most systems at anything other than the lowest of the game's graphics settings, the simulation has significant performance issues. How much these issues hinder your enjoyment of the game will depend upon what kind of frame rates you need to enjoy a civilian flight sim.

Genre: Flight Simulation

I just got back from piloting a Boeing 747-400 through the steep red gorges of the Grand Canyon. I had a great time, but I imagine my passengers were screaming all the way. Shortly after, I was buzzing the lunchtime crowd in downtown Manhattan in my Extra 300S. Finally, I took a serene flight over the dark seas off McMurdoch airstrip in Antarctica. All this before lunch.

Microsoft's flight simulator is nearly 25 years old and is now back with a 10th installment that brings all the fun and challenge of flying. The good news is that the simulator looks better than ever, sporting next-generation graphics that come as close as ever to the real experience of looking out of a window at 20,000 feet. The bad news is that your computer is an underachiever. That's what you'll probably be feeling once you've fired this up, unless you're one of the few who has a souped-up rig that could serve the needs of small- to medium-sized businesses.
