PAL PS3 Backwards Compatibility Updated

When it was announced that the graphics synthesizer chip wouldn't be included in PAL PS3s, which means they wouldn't have full backwards compatibility, it was super-huge news. But as it turns out, nearly three-quarters of the PS2 library was playable on the PS3 right off the bat, despite the drawback. Furthermore, much like with the Xbox 360, Sony would continue to add more games to the backwards compatibility list as time went on.

And after the latest software Update 1.70, they have indeed updated the b/c list to reflect several new additions. Among them; the popular Gran Turismo, Ratchet and Clank, and Prince of Persia games, which should work flawlessly on the PS3 now, and several other PS3 titles - like Amplitude - have also been added.

Check the official PAL PS3 backwards compatibility site to see what the current status is for your games.

God Of War II - The Spinal Tap of Arcade Games

God of War II takes its previous successes even further and in GOW2 the gameplay is so intense, the graphics so rich, the sound so visceral and the design so huge that it almost seems impossible to be contained within the confines of Sony's black box.

The basic premise of the game also thankfully remains unchanged; slice and dice like a vengeful human food-processor through thousands of evil minions, weaving a path of destruction to face your nemesis- Zeus, God of Gods. Kratos, the Ghost of Sparta, has the benefit of a slew of new moves, plus a few old faves to help him on his merry way. Athena's Blades make a welcome return, and possibly still remain the best weapon for their speed and versatility. Finishing moves, and combos still play a huge part of the fighting mechanics, and the detailed array of attacks and responsive controls system allow you to utilise multiple strategies depending on the battle.

Activision promises authentic experience with Guitar Hero III

Activision announced new details about its forthcoming game, Guitar Hero III, which will feature a number of new songs composed by some of the big names in the music industry.

Activision revealed that "strategic partnerships have been secured with all the major and independent music record labels" and gamers will undergo an "authentic musical experience". Guitar Hero II features an all-new multiplayer action-inspired battle mode, boss battles and unlockable content apart from an online multiplayer mode, original artists' recordings and authentic rock venues.

Guitar Hero II will be released some time this fall on PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. The PS2 version includes a wireless guitar based on Kramer models while PS3, 360 and Wii versions will feature a wireless guitar based on Gibson Guitar's Les Paul model.
