Archlord crucified again, this time by Gaming Nexus for 2.6/10

You know it is not a good sign when picking up a new game if you have to schedule time to force yourself to sit down and play it. Such is the case with Codemaster's latest MMO, Archlord. Nothing in the manual, or the box art, or the online forums immediately inspired me to install the game and play to my heart's content. Later on, I would come to find that nothing in the actual game would please my heart, either.

Technically, I haven't reviewed it yet. I think I'll wait until 25 more reviews come out.

PC Review: Archlord

Codemasters sometimes wonders why we don't post all their press releases. Well, the answer is clear: they sometimes make such bad games that we prefer not to mention them. b|0-0|n has checked out one of such games, Archlord and the only good thing about it is that we get to read a funny piece of text that completely kill the game. Click here and have more fun reading about it than when playing it.

Massively Multiplayer Online Game

While starting up Archlord, something that takes some time thanks to the clumsy registration process, a dark force seems to infest you. Somewhere in the back of your head a suggestion rises, some sort of telepathic vision of what's waiting for you. A MMORPG apparently, yes, but one that can be described as the Anti-WoW. A MMORPG that stands for everything plain evil, dark and devilish to the genre, an example of everything that can go wrong, a sum of misses with as result a game that sucks every, and I'm saying évery, little grain of gaming fun out of you already after the first seconds of playing as if it were a whory breed from hell, obsessed with prematurily ending your life force. I may be overdoing things a bit, but walk with me. Such games ask a lot of you: both financially as well as when it comes to time consumption, this genre will ask sometimes more than you're willing to give.

ArchLord gets crucified by Gamespot

Sadly most of the review for ArchLord at Gamespot could equally apply to any number of MMO's out right now. So, to justify the awesome score of 2.7 out of 10, I'll focus on the part that is specific to this game:

The bad news is that it's boring to repeatedly kill or be killed by monsters, especially since the monsters, your character, and your weapons tend to make only one sound sample apiece--and they all sound like cheap, public-domain audio files you'd hear on a bad TV cartoon. Considering that your character and the monsters also repeat the same animation over and over again in battle, this might be the best way to describe what a battle in ArchLord looks like--not an epic struggle with a human warrior fighting for his life against a vicious monster, but two cartoon characters repeatedly whacking each other on the head for hours on end.
