Lady Indians Advance to Finals of Contra Costa Classic

BERKELEY, Calif. (12-2-2006) - Seniors Adrianne Davie and Rudy Sims combined for 53 points to lift the Arkansas State Lady Indians (5-3) to a 90-71 win over San Jose State (0-7) Saturday night in the California Contra Costa Times Classic at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, Calif.

Davie finished the night with 28 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Sims finished with a season high 25 points, five rebounds and a season high four steals. Ashley Anderson also finished in double figures for ASU, netting 10 points on the night. ASU's 90 points were another season-high for the Lady Indians, eclipsing an 87-point effort against Arkansas Pine Bluff Nov. 26.

"We did enough good things to get the win, but we didn't play with a lot of discipline," said ASU head coach Brian Boyer. "Probably some of that was fighting off fatigue from the travel.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Xbox360 Live Arcade)

Alright, let's get down to it. Lately, the Xbox Live Arcade hasn't really been up to snuff when it comes to delivering quality games. For example, everyone was psyched when Street Fighter II was announced, and it turned out to be a pretty big letdown. Not too long after that, the godfather of first-person shooters came out, Doom. Though it was well received by old-school gamers, it really didn't hold up. Pac-man and Dig-Dug also hopped on board...seriously, we're supposed to be amped about getting a single game from the 1980's a week? Out comes Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 to save the day. Every fan of the series was ready for this, but with the recent past of XBLA releases, does this classic have what it takes to pull the Arcade out of the slump? For those who have never had the opportunity to play the game, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is basically a remixed version of the original MK3.

There should be no room for godfather in politics” ODITAH

An Ibusa born, legal luminary and academician of note, Professor Fidelis Oditah, contesting the governorship race in Delta State where over 30 aspirants are on the queue, says he decided to venture into politics because of the negligent manner he lost his father in a government hospital in Asaba two years ago, maintaining that he came in to positively change the system. He also said that he does not believe in godfatherism in politics and would take it in good faith if at the end of the primaries after putting in his best to showcase himself and the new vision he has for the people of the state and eventually, another flag bearer was picked by his party, PDP, no qualms. Excerpts:

How far have you been carrying on with your campaign, can you beat your chest and say you have made appreciable progress? Yes, the campaign is coming on extremely well.

Pierce Brosnan returns in a ˜superspy avatar

Washington, Nov 19: The James Bond franchise may have returned this week without Pierce Brosnan, but it seems the former 007 can't get enough of playing a spy.

The Matador actor is reportedly lined up to star in a new spy franchise called Spy vs. Stu, but unfortunately, it's a comedy.

Keith Mitchell and Allie Dvorin wrote the original script about a guy named Stu who plans to propose to his girlfriend on an island vacation, only to get unexpected competition from a super spy (Brosnan) who just finished saving the world, reports Hollywood Reporter.

The 53-year-old played Bond on four occasions before being replaced by Daniel Craig in new 007 movie Casino Royale.

Avatar population booms

There's been a lot of hoopla recently about something called "Second Life" and much has been made of its astoundingly fast growth. It gained its 1 millionth resident in October at about the same time the U.S. population turned 300 million. As of early last week, "Second Life's" Web site reported 1.5 million residents.

In this virtual world, often called a "metaverse," residents (not "players") design their own online representations (called "avatars"), hold virtual jobs, go to virtual clubs and shop in the virtual world. They communicate with each other by typing text messages that appear on the screen.

"Second Life's" programming allows residents to build their own virtual houses and other creations. They could create a fictional animal and program it to follow them around.

Darwin As Avatar Of Elective Consciousness

Charles Darwin's theory that humans have descended from the apes has long been assailed by Christian 'creationists'. Now, Darwin's theories are under attack by Islamic fundamen-talists in Turkey as well.

In contrast, no one has made much of a fuss about Darwin in India. This is not surprising as most subscribers to the Indic tradition (which includes many who are not of the Hindu persuasion) believe in reincarnation.

Never mind humankind, you as an individual may well have been an aardvark or a centi-pede in your last life, and could well be born again as a cockroach or a king in your next existential instalment. Karmic reincarnation is a childlike parable.

"If you eat while you're lying down, in your next life you'll be born a snake,"a mother cautions a lazy son who has developed the messy habit of eating in bed.
