Beer Tycoon Announced

There's not much that beats a good glass of beer in the evening – not that is, besides two good glasses of beer! Now Frogster Interactive is giving gamers and drinkers the opportunity to simulate making money selling their beloved drink. Beer Tycoon will also be the first game where players will be in charge of brewing their favorite beers. To be released in January 2007, it's being developed by tycoon experts Virtual Playground. Gamers have numerous options in the game. They start with a handful of brewery buildings and try to build up to an international big brand corporation. For this, they have to manage all necessary things. From recruiting and marketing to the development of new products – and these are only a few of the many important tasks facing intending brewery managers. Featuring highly detailed 3D graphics, the game offers the opportunity to enter the beer business as head of a micro brewery or a medium sized suburban brewery, or even enter the global competition managing a full-blown big brewery.

Bureau Report

Sunday newspaper round-up: Premier Foods, BT, EMI

LONDON (SHARECAST) - The chief executive of Premier Foods, Robert Schofield, is believed to have made a takeover approach to merge the firm with rival RHM, a move that would combine some of Britains biggest brands and create a 2bn food producer, writes the Sunday Times. Premier Foods already owns brands such as Branston Pickle and Angel Delight while RHM is best known for Hovis, Bisto and Mr Kipling. Freeport, the troubled European factory outlet developer, is preparing to enter talks with Carlyle, the US buyout group, about a 435p-a-share takeover offer, which would value the company at 165m. It is understood the Freeport board are in principle prepared to recommend a takeover offer pitched at that level, but no firm agreement with Carlyle has yet been reached because the US group has still to complete its due diligence, the Sunday Times writes.

Board games a lot safer

It amazed me the other day when I turned on the TV and saw a news report about a fist fight that broke out at a big city department store over who got to pay $600 for the first PlayStation 3 video game system for the Christmas season.

Whatever happened to peace on earth and good will to men? .

West Ham sugar daddies beware: haggling over small-beer deals will ...

Hard as it is to conceive, there was a time when Roman AbramovichÂ’s money could not buy him love at Chelsea. Towards the end of the 2003-04 season, Chelsea were pushing ArsenalÂ’s Invincibles hard for the title and had eliminated them from the Champions League.

The coach was the likeable Claudio Ranieri, charming and eccentric in that he never queried referees’ decisions and bore all that life threw at him without complaint. In this case, life threw £122 million of players bought by Abramovich in two insane summer months. An organisational genius would have found it hard to mould a winning team in that time — it was said that when told of the £6 m illion purchase of Glen Johnson, the full back, from West Ham United, Ranieri could not immediately place the player — yet somehow he managed it.

Now Showing

Hantu Jeruk Purut (Horror, 90 minutes) Starring Angie, Sheila M. Joseph, Samuel Z. Heckenbucker, Valia Rahma. Directed by Koya Pagayo.

When a novelist working on a book about the notorious, headless ghost of a priest lurking in a cemetery is mysteriously killed, a teenager (Angie, of hit film Virgin fame) boldly carries out the task of finishing the book. Meanwhile, the angry ghost sees to it that she never gets it done, with some terrorizing apparitions.

Although the film is not so bad as to invite unintended laughter from the audience (like the two local horror flicks released before it), it still fails to do justice to the original urban legend. The screenwriter seems to be lost in his own script, with too many insignificant subplots and characters.

Despite some rather scary apparitions now and then, the scares are cheap and badly choreographed; not to mention them being rip-offs from countless horror films in the library of modern cinema.

Retro Gaming - Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

Sid Meier - a name that should send a shiver of unadulterated bliss through any hardcore gamer, for it was Sid who gave the world turn based real-time strategy in its purest form: Civilization.

The Civ series has now reached its fourth incarnation, each following the same concept: build an empire and conquer the world over the span of human history, culminating by launching a spaceship to colonise the Alpha Centauri system. You win. The end. Finito. That was until 1999 and release of Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. Taking cues from the Civ design, Firaxis Games made a spin-off which continued the story of the colonists. Things have gone a tad pear shaped on the spaceship, with the crew divided into seven factions and each having bagged an escape pod and shot off to a corner of 'Planet' (or Chiron, if you stoop to reading the manual).

To the throne room! Dark Age of Camelot's chapter quest tests

So, now that Dark Ages of Camelot's "Show Me the Mino-Relics" event is over and done with, how's everyone doing? A little peachy, aren't we? Well now, you can't just go about raiding here and there and everywhere all the time, no can you? You'd want something interesting to pop up from time to time.

Good thing Missy Hatch is up to the task once again, and so should you. She's setting up another event for all you lucky little beta-boys and -girls to participate in.

We'd like to get some groups from each realm together on Thursday 11/09/06 and Friday 11/10/06 to test the Labyrinth of the Minotaur chapter quests, Chapters Two and Three, for general quest bugs and playability. Those who can make it, meet at 7pm EST outside of each realm's Throne Room. Leading the event will be: MythicCL, MythicBrendan, MythicChristian, and MythicMatt.
