Get Ready to Rock

The Stones' Paint It Black, Sabotage by the Beastie Boys, Cherub Rock from the Smashing Pumpkins. These are just some of the songs that will be available when Guitar Hero III hits shelves this fall. And the best part? You get the original recordings, not just covers. (Unfortunately, the one Im looking forward to most--Heart's Barracuda--is still a cover version.)

Activision has announced a few details on the next game in its Guitar Hero franchise. Coming out for all three next-gen consoles, plus the PS2, Guitar Hero III will feature several upgrades, including wireless controllers, removable faceplates, new guitars, bigger and better venues, and an online multiplayer mode that lets you shred off against someone on the other side of the world.

Here's the list of so-far announced master tracks (done by the original artist): Paint It Black (The Rolling Stones), Cherub Rock (Smashing Pumpkins), Sabotage (Beastie Boys), The Metal (Tenacious D), My Name is Jonas (Weezer), Knights of Cydonia (Muse), and Cult of Personality (Living Colour).

When PC ports go bad: the wasted potential of Resident Evil 4

While the PC version of Resident Evil 4 won't be out in the United States of Freedom until May 15, a lucky Ars Technica forum member kibbler picked up the European copy. I think I'll let his minireview speak for itself.

Be it boon or bane, I picked up Biohazard 4 (European version; only European/German and Asia versions available currently... I believe) to lay to rest my bottomless guilt for selling my black GC (to pay bills) way too soon. I never had a chance to play RE4 on GC or PS2...

Lo and behold, what a piece of shit. If you own either console, skip this.

A recent 1.10 patch added some lighting and texture filtering to improve what was essentially a straight-from-the-butthole, shitty, castrated port with far, far inferior graphics.

Sony's God of War II orgy - shocking

We haven't seen a really controversial Sony PR stunt since their ill-advised PSP adverts, in which a white woman loomed over a petrified-looking black girl, with the slogan, "PlayStation Portable White is coming." Before that, Sony had to apologise and subsequently withdraw an advertising campaign for the PlayStation, which featured a man wearing a crown of thorns with the slogan "Ten years of passion". Not to mention the PSP billboard ad that advised consumers at train stations to "Take a running jump from here". The shock tactics used by Sony in their advertising campaigns create a great deal of publicity. A quick apology, and it's all forgotten, then onto the next one. So, it was no surprise when we discovered that the company are at it again, this time in an effort to promote the PS2 version of God Of War II.
