New Broken Sword exposed

Despite the last update to Revolution's long-running adventure series proving something of a let-down critically and commercially, the Broken Sword series will return, with a brand new instalment already well underway. Publisher THQ have revealed that number four in the series, in its 90s heyday an exemplar of point-and-click excellence (before the genre's untimely and underserved demise), will be released for the PC in summer 2006. Broken Sword: The Angel of Death will be the name of the new outing. Series star George Stobbart will once again return in this latest title, in which his wits, charm and luck will once again be pitted against powerful sinister forces on a globe-trotting adventure involving a mysterious artefact and all manner of sinister plottings.

The game will begin a spot more romance for poor George, who becomes infatuated with a mysterious woman only for Miss Right to disappear on him, kick-starting the whole adventure.

This week's LOTRo Beta journal: Cooks of Middle-Earth unite!

This week's LOTRo Beta Journal (the one on the game's official page), features the closed beta's recent call for the game's players to show off their elite crafting skills in a massive crafting festival.

The event seemed to be a crash test to see how large number of players crafting at the same time will affect the game. The journal notes:

A small icon appeared in the corner of the screen to warn me that my gameplay might be impacted due to high server load. Other than the initial stutter and the warning icon, I hardly noticed a problem with upwards of sixty characters being on screen at once. Impressive!

It's interesting to note that due to the large numbers of cooks and crafters in the event, the demand on vendors was enough to cause any one vendor to run out of town screaming.

Wounded Lions fall prey to plundering Pirates

WEST ORANGE -- After beginning the season with a 2-1 victory over Bergen Catholic on Saturday, the Pope John hockey team skated into Richard J. Codey Arena in West Orange on Saturday fully expecting another tight battle against host Seton Hall Prep.

What the Lions got instead was an early-season reminder of just how rough things can get in Gordon Conference when you don't show up to play on a nightly basis.

Playing their first game of the season, the Pirates scored four times in the second period, including two shorthanded goals and a power-play marker to break open a tight game en route to an 8-1 blowout of the visitors. Pope John, which was playing without the services of its top offensive threat in John Hero as well as forward Dan Bourke, simply had no answer for Seton's top line of Nick Passantino (three goals, two assists), captain Chris Preziosi (goal, three assists) and Marcelo DeAngelis (goal, two assists).
