Late Night Consoling

According to reports out of Nintendo Power, Bizarre Creations' well-loved top down shooter franchise Geometry Wars will be seeing entries on Wii and Nintendo DS as Geometry Wars: Galaxies. Apparently, Galaxies will veer away from the quick-play arcade roots of the original Xbox and Xbox 360 games, and will be "a full-fledged game with an extensive single-player campaign" as well as multiplayer modes. Unsurprisingly, Galaxies will feature some sort of motion control and stylus-based control on Wii and DS respectively. For gamers who prefer the old-school take, the original Geometry Wars and Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved will be included.

Geometry Wars: Galaxies is being developed by Kuju Entertainment, the studio behind the Battalion Wars franchise on GameCube and Wii, as well as the multiplayer component of Arkane Studios' Dark Messiah of Might & Magic (PC).

BlackSite Area 51 Demo Hits XBL Marketplace

Midway's highly anticipated action FPS title, BlackSite: Area 51, is now live and playable for the first time via Xbox Live Marketplace with an exciting single-player teaser demo, which provides a glimpse of what's to come when it hits shelves later this year in September 2007.

http://www.blacksitegame.com/ is also now live and features ALL-NEW downloadable game assets, such as screenshots, concept art, and a teaser demo walk-through video featuring BlackSite's Creative Director, Harvey Smith, as narrator.

Modern day fears spring to life in a familiar, yet extraordinary setting: A small American town swarming with alien life. The government is desperate, struggling to contain secrets so terrible, they can no longer be kept. Everything hinges on the actions of Aeran Pierce, a former Special Forces assassin thrown into the flashpoint of the most explosive moment in the nation's history.

Xbox 360 game prices jump with add-ons

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- New charges for online extras are sharply raising the price serious video gamers pay for Xbox 360 games, a profitable move by Microsoft Corp. , but one that could alienate some fans.

With more than 6 million users, Microsoft's Xbox Live online network has become the key feature distinguishing the Xbox 360 from rival Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Co. Ltd.'s Wii.

More than 3 million Xbox Live subscribers pay a $50 annual fee that allows them to play games online against one another. About 3 million more use the service without an annual subscription, taking the total to more than half Xbox users.

Through Xbox Live, players can buy maps for fighting terrains and other add-ons that are indispensable to serious gamers, usually at a cost of $10 each.

God of War: Chains of Olympus Interview

"God of War: Chains of Olympus is about Cory Barlog," opens God of War: Chains of Olympus creative director and God of War II director Cory Barlog. "It's a Cory Barlog story about Cory Barlog taking down Cory Barlog. But Barbie Horse Adventure somehow factors in. There is Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen--"

"Shhhh," interjects the game's director and co-founder of developer Ready at Dawn, Ru Weerasuriya. "Don't talk about that project."

"It's supposed to be our secret," Barlog continues. "And My Little Pony. All secret."

With Barlog once again highlighting underappreciated licensed games, thus begins my impromptu chat with two of the leading men behind Ready at Dawn's upcoming God of War: Chains of Olympus for the PSP.

A prequel set ten years before SCE Santa Monica's original God of War, the PSP version looks virtually identical to its PS2 brethren and retains all the chaos and brutal on-screen action the series is known for.
