HDTV gaming for non-next-gen gamers Not ready to open your wallet for next-gen? No worries - you can still enjoy HD gaming on your current console - if you have the right cable and choose the right games. When you are ready for next-gen, rest assured the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 offer genuine hi-def video output for every game, right out of the box. And while Nintendo's Wii won't offer HDTV resolutions (boo!), it will offer widescreen for some games, including the launch title Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. To get widescreen from your prior generation consoles - Xbox, PS2 and the early model Game Cube - you'll need an optional HD cable for playing in true HD. The cable plugs into the component video ports on the back of your set - they're the trio of red, green, and blue RCA type jacks. But be warned, not all games offer widescreen, also known as 16:9, resolution. Xbox 360 Review - 'Need for Speed: Carbon' In a crowded launch lineup that featured three solid racing games, Need for Speed: Most Wanted for the Xbox 360 was a surprising breath of fresh air. I had expected little more than a gussied-up port of the Xbox version, but what I got was an excellent port that featured enhancements to both the graphics and gameplay alike. It was the less-rigid, arcade-style alternative to Project Gotham Racing 3, and the more-exciting, less-repetitive substitute for Ridge Racer 6. Nearly a year has passed since the launch of the Xbox 360, and the racing market is more crowded than ever. In the last several months, we have seen the brilliant port of Burnout Revenge, not to mention the unique Test Drive Unlimited, a casual cruiser that brings commerce and community into the fray. A number of other titles, including Full Auto and MotoGP 06, have taken the basic racing mold in other directions with varying amounts of success. Tech Toys 2006, Part 1: Video Games With both Sony and Nintendo shipping next-generation video game consoles this season, it makes sense to start with video games, an industry that generates more money every year than all the content that comes out of Hollywood combined. Both the Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii (pronounced "wee") provide unique advantages over Microsoft's year-old Xbox 360, but the Xbox 360 has one major advantage over the competition: Unlike the Sony and Nintendo units, you should have no problem finding an Xbox 360 this holiday season. So let's start there.
Microsoft Xbox 360 November 13, 2006 - The original Guitar Hero is arguably the best musical game on the market for the PS2. It has great songs from all around the Rock n Roll spectrum and offers a great peripheral with the Guitar. In fact, it appeals to almost anyone who loves Rock but doesnt know how to play a guitar effectively. After a lot of fans started begging for a sequel, RedOctane decided it was time to deliver with Guitar Hero II. The new addition takes all the great aspects of the original and improves upon them by leaps and bounds. For those not familiar with the original game, Guitar Hero II is fairly simple to pick up and play. Players first choose the name of a band, and must go to different venues while rocking out to different songs on the guitar controller. The guitar itself uses five buttons to help gamers in performing the different notes of a song.
Thurston overcomes test of doubt JOHNATHAN THURSTON may have engineered Australia's win over New Zealand in the Tri-Nations final on Saturday night but it wasn't too long ago that he was questioning whether he was good enough to wear the green and gold jumper.
