Lloyd Webber Aims To Take Maria Tv Contest To Us

British theatre impresario SIR ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER is hoping to revive his hit THE SOUND OF MUSIC reality TV contest in America. The Tony Award-winning composer and producer won both acclaim and scorn when he launched a nationwide search for a new MARIA for the London revival of the RODGERS + HAMMERSTEIN musical in Britain earlier this year (06), and now he's keen to do the same again in America. Already among the judges slated to be part of a similar project to find talented wannabes to star in an upcoming GREASE revival, Lloyd Webber admits he's in negotiations to turn his HOW DO YOU SOLVE A PROBLEM LIKE MARIA TV show into a US hit. Writing in his online diary, the CATS composer states: "I go to New York, then on to Los Angeles, and we're going to be talking about the Maria programme over there." Lloyd Webber is currently producing the smash hit London revival of The Sound Of Music, which stars TV contest winner CONNIE FISHER.

Julie Webb-Pullman: Oaxaca – Means and Ends

The Popular Assembly of the Peoples of Oaxaca (APPO) protest marches in Oaxaca of 20 and 25 November have seen an unprecedented escalation of violence, the former resulting in over 50 requiring hospitalisation and more than 100 detained, and that of last weekend in at least 3 deaths, scores requiring hospitalisation and scores more injured, and more than 150 detained by police. Whilst on 20 November the police activity was largely confined to attacks on marchers, on 25 November the indiscriminate police tactics of Atenco were evident, with people being rounded up off the street, and houses entered and people seized from within them. Government sources on Monday confirmed the arbitrary nature of the detentions, advising that only some 50 of the 152 “officially” detained on Saturday night appeared before the court on Sunday, and the rest were freed because they did not participate in the confrontation between police and marchers.

Xbox 360 Review: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07

Tiger's first round on the Xbox 360 did not turn out well. It had only six courses, scant modes to play, and broken online multiplayer.EA's mea culpa, thankfully, comes this year with Tiger Woods 07. Not only does the Xbox 360 version offer unique game play mechanics, and a new presentation, but the online play works (after a slight hiccup).Doubling the amount of courses (to 12) is a major improvement, but this is a far cry from the 21 found on the Xbox version. The six new courses look great, and are fun to play, though (Tiger has always been a fun game, no matter the shortcomings).New in 07 are Firestone Country Club, Glen Abby, Prince Course, Spyglass Hill, Bandon Dunes, and St. Andrews. Hopefully, next year we will see some of the fantasy courses, like the Central Park course new in the PSP and Xbox versions of Tiger 07.But the first thing you notice, beyond the gorgeous looking courses (they are a step above last year's game), is the major work put into the presentation.

Review: Need for Speed - Carbon

Xbox: The Need for Speed series has taken the gaming world by storm since it decided to include the Tuner culture in the gameplay.

Now, in the latest addition, EA has taken the racing experience one step further and thrown in the latest craze of downhill drifting, as seen in the Fast and the Furious film, Tokyo Drift.

The gameplay in Carbon has taken a turn for the better this year, with a different layout and the inclusion of a few goodies. First, your goal is to take over the city by winning several races in each neighbourhood. Then you race in a Canyon Duel to own it outright. These are two-stage races down a hillside with the winner taking control of the neighbourhood and, possibly, the opponent's ride. Players also have their own crew who you sometimes get to race with, who consist of blockers, drafters and scouts.
