Dead or Alive Xtreme 2

In combining bubblegum pop, pretty trinkets and dress-up with a risqu treatment of the female form, Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 occupies a curious middle ground between Just 17 and Playboy; in danger of alienating the girls with its blatant voyeurism, while its cutesy guff threatens to put off the boys. Fuck the series apologists who claim its not about horny, pre-pubescent teenage lads and the DD-deprived Japanese getting their kicks from the polygonal realisation of the female body, because thats exactly what it is. However, to see Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 as just that is very foolish indeed. Behind the numerous (and they are numerous) shots of crotches and bouncing chests that flood the opening cut scene lies a game that isnt as dim as the air-headed dialogue would have the player believe. In jettisoning the Volleyball tag from the sequels title, Team Ninja have recognised that the series focus has always been the vacation as opposed to the sport; reinforced by a selection of brand new activities.

Microsoft turns to FHM for multi-territory Xbox campaign

FHM readers in five European countries will have the chance to compete in a 15-day tournament taking place in various locations around the world as part of a campaign being run by Microsoft in support of its Xbox 360 console.

The Xbox 360/FHM Global Challenge will be promoted for six months from December in FHM's print and online platforms in the UK, France, Norway, Denmark and Holland.

The Xbox 360/FHM Global Challenge will see competition winners from each participating FHM territory compete in a 360-hour, 15-day event which will involve real-life challenges based on Xbox 360 games.

The event will take place in Japan, Australia, and the USA before moving onto the Caribbean where readers will take part in beach sports based on the Xbox 360 title Dead or Alive Xtreme 2.

Microsoft trumpets Christmas software line-up

Not to be out done by the hype surrounding the launch of rival consoles, Microsoft is shouting about its software line-up for the Xbox 360 - a year after it first hit Europe.

Xbox 360 exclusives Viva Piñata, Gears of War, Test Drive Unlimited, Saints Row, Dead Rising and Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 are leading the marketing push of over 160 titles available for the system.

"Xbox 360 offers the broadest and deepest selection of mind-blowing experiences this Christmas," commented Chris Lewis, Microsoft's Xbox 360 Euro boss.

"We're excited, just one year after launch, to be able to offer such a diverse games line-up offering exclusive new titles and established blockbusters," he said.

01:13 Review: Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 (0)

Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 is a rare example of when a game knows exactly what it is and doesn't try to do anything past that. This game knows that it's nothing more than blatant fan-service, and it embraces that. About 5 seconds into the opening video, you know exactly what you're in for as your screen is completely filled by a pair of boobs. The game is a lot more comfortable with what it is than its predecessor, as anyone who saw the pole dancing in the trailer can attest to. The question is, does the game have anything to offer other than a bouncing pair of breasts?

Gameplay The Gameplay in DOAX2 is pitiful. Somehow, I actually think that the volleyball gameplay got worse from the first game. The partner AI got better and is a nice improvement, but the controls seem a little sluggish this time around.
