Wii VC Nets Two More Genesis Classics

Sega announced today that two more Sega Genesis classics, Golden Axe and Ecco the Dolphin, are now available for the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console. Each title retails for 800 Wii Points ($8).

In Golden Axe, players choose either a powerful warrior, an amazon, or a tough-nosed dwarf and fight it out with the evil Death Adder's forces. Players can attack with weapons and magic, and also use mounts. Ecco the Dolphin takes a more leisurely approach, allowing players to explore the ocean while trying to find his missing friends. Sonar can be used to gain valuable information from other creatures, although as a dolphin players must remember to surface for air to survive. Ecco also features one of the best soundtracks of the 16-bit era. These new titles join previously released Genesis titles Sonic the Hedgehog and Altered Beast, giving the system one of the best Virtual Console lineups thus far on the Wii.

Lloyd Webber Aims To Take Maria Tv Contest To Us

British theatre impresario SIR ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER is hoping to revive his hit THE SOUND OF MUSIC reality TV contest in America. The Tony Award-winning composer and producer won both acclaim and scorn when he launched a nationwide search for a new MARIA for the London revival of the RODGERS + HAMMERSTEIN musical in Britain earlier this year (06), and now he's keen to do the same again in America. Already among the judges slated to be part of a similar project to find talented wannabes to star in an upcoming GREASE revival, Lloyd Webber admits he's in negotiations to turn his HOW DO YOU SOLVE A PROBLEM LIKE MARIA TV show into a US hit. Writing in his online diary, the CATS composer states: "I go to New York, then on to Los Angeles, and we're going to be talking about the Maria programme over there." Lloyd Webber is currently producing the smash hit London revival of The Sound Of Music, which stars TV contest winner CONNIE FISHER.

'Marvel: Ultimate Alliance' is superheroic

And that's the coolest thing about "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance," a new action RPG from Raven Software (the developer responsible for "X-Men Legends"). As any fanboy (or girl) will tell you, the sheer volume of playable heroes offered in this action packed title is a divine thing sent from comic book heaven.

More than 140 of Marvel's famed characters make an appearance during "Ultimate Alliance," which finds Doctor Doom and the Masters of Evil - a super villain super force with a deadly chip on its collective shoulder - doing their malevolent best to muck things up for the known universe.

Of those 140 characters, more than 20 of them are playable, allowing gamers to create their very own superhero dream team. Though you start the game with a team of four made up of Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain America and Thor, you soon have the option to pick from the likes of Deadpool, Elektra, Colossus, Iron Man and many more.

Flames set to face divisional gauntlet

CALGARY - Thanks to the quirks of the National Hockey League schedule, the Calgary Flames will up to their tonsils in Taylor Pyatt for the rest of the season.

They will have Wojtek Wolski coming out the wazoo. They will have more confrontations with Brian Rolston than they can shake a Branko Radivojevic at.

No fewer than 23 of Calgary's remaining 60 contests will be against the Vancouver Canucks (Pyatt), Colorado Avalanche (Wolski) and Minnesota Wild (Rolston and Radivojevic). It starts with tonight's contest in Denver against Colorado.

By the time it's all over, there won't be a single thing we won't know about Lukas Krajicek, Rory Fitzpatrick, Karlis Skrastins, Antti Laaksonen, Petteri Nummelin and Mattias Weinhandl.

"It's going to very tough.

Iraq heroes sacrificed selves to save others

Since the Civil War, 3,461 men and one woman have received the medal, awarded for bravery above and beyond the call of duty. Before the war in Iraq, the award was last bestowed for bravery during the 1993 battle of Mogadishu in Somalia.

President Bush said Nov. 10 that Marine Cpl. Jason Dunham of Scio, N.Y., will receive the Medal of Honor, becoming the second person honored with the award for service in Iraq and the first Marine honoree since the Vietnam War. The only other recipient from the Iraq war is Army Sgt. 1st Class Paul Ray Smith, 33, who died in battle at the Baghdad airport in April 2003. Smith was from the Tampa, Fla., area.

Dunham was a 22-year-old corporal in April 2004 when he received a report that a Marine convoy had been ambushed, according to a Marine Corps account.
