Asda slashes 360 software prices Ahead of its 2007 Q1 financial update tomorrow, Asda has stated that it is to embark upon a fresh price war against its supermarket rivals, and aggressive discounting on Xbox 360 software appears to be leading the way.A story in yesterday’s The Sunday Times quotes Asda boss Andy Bond as saying that with the public feeling the pinch as the result of recent interest rate rises, it is more important that ever to keep prices low.Asda Online is currently offering a number of Xbox 360 titles at just £12.97, including Kameo, Prey and Gun. A number of other titles are also heavily discounted, including Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires for £13.97, Splinter Cell: Double Agent for £15.97 and Ninety-Nine Nights for £16.97.A number of games are also discounted to £17.97, including F.E.A.R., Lego Star Wars II, Pro Evolution Soccer 6 and Football Manager 2007.There are also a number of promotions on other formats. The release of a beta version of Halo 3 on Xbox 360 Live in the last few days is a brilliant piece of marketing - and research and development. Game developer Bungie gets thousands of people to test free a part of the hugely popular sci-fi game at the same time as creating a viral marketing storm about a game that won't hit the shelves til September. No wonder in the first 24 hours of the game finally appearing, more than 60,000 games had been played. It's beta and the first bug sent fans wild in a bad sort of way. On download day, a technical fault meant the game could not be accessed. Once fixed, it took me four hours to download the 900MB set-up file. Thanks Bungle - sorry Bungie! I'm loving it but a little frustrated by the lag. Up against gamers who must have been playing it all night and are on a uber-fast broadband connection overseas, you've got to expect to get killed several times and not be riding at the top of the team list.

Forza Motorsport 2 Review (Xbox 360) Someone should have passed this advice on to Turn 10, as its apparent that the racing arm of Microsoft Game Studios was on the leaded stuff and off their rocker when building Forza Motorsport 2. Why? Theres simply no way a development team of sound mind would attempt to create a game of Forza Motorsport 2s magnitude. Okay, so maybe Turn 10 doesnt get their jollies from directly inhaling mega-octane fuel, but indirectly this crew, at the very least, has 30-weight race oil coursing through their veins. Forza Motorsport 2s Executive producer Dan Greenawalt discussed Turn 10s lust for cars (and passion for racing them) here, but its apparent from the end result of this follow-up that this development team is staffed with more than just track junkies. Greenawalt is a self-proclaimed physics nut, which probably explains why Corvette Racing was interested in the type of telemetry that Forza Motorsport 2 has the ability to feed back to the user. NASCAR 08 The Countdown Begins Welcome to the first part of Sportsgamers's NASCAR 08 countdown, till the release of the game. I will look to try and explain the differences and similarities of NASCAR's 22 tracks. Today we start with one of the biggest and one of the most well known tracks from around the world. Daytona International Super Speedway. Daytona is a 2.5 mile track which features a 3,000 foot back stretch and a 3,800 foot front stretch making NASCAR to have to use Restrictor plates in order to keep the cars under 200 MPH so the cars do not become airborne. The four turns at Daytona are banked at 31 degrees making the cars drive at an angle at a high speed. While Daytona is more of handling track than Talladega Super Speedway, most of the time you do not have to lift off the gas while going around this oval. The Daytona 500 kicks off the Official Points season for the NASCAR Nextel Cup series and also hosts Busch and Truck series race. Microsoft Betas Halo 3 for Xbox 360 Preparations are proceeding for release of Halo 3 for the Xbox 360, with Microsoft hosting events last week to give game reviewers an opportunity to preview a beta version of Halo 3. Although Shane Kim of Microsoft Game Studios predicts that Halo 3 will be even bigger than Halo 2, reviewers see more work needed, based on the beta version they previewed. . |
