Cerebral Gamer: The Wii at Six Months

The views and opinions expressed herein do not necessarily state or reflect those of Nintendojo as a whole or any of its affiliates.

May 19th, 2007 was a date of minor significance for Nintendo Wii, as it represented the six-month anniversary of the launch of the system. Its been an amazing story, to be sure; the little white console has surprised just about everyone, including Nintendo, by the way it has stormed onto the market. The ride has not been without a few bumps, though, and question marks still loom large. With that in mind, we take a closer look at the good, bad and just plain ugly of Wii at this stage in the consoles life cycle. Good

Sales Figures. By any standard, Wii has been a financial blockbuster, selling just under 6 million units in six months.

11:59 Capcom discusses new downloads on Wii (0)

Over at Gamasutra there is an interesting interview with Capcom's Christian Svensson, Senior Director of Strategic Planning & Research, that covers several topics, including Nintendo-related ones such as Resident Evil 4 and whether or not we will see new downloadable content on Wii.

First of all it was revealed that the company has received praise for its budget pricing of the Wii edition of Resident Evil 4 and Svensson states he believes the Wii iteration will "be the best version of the four" (GameCube, PlayStation 2, PC and Wii).

Gamasutra: Resident Evil seems very Wii-focused right now.

CS: It is in the near term. Resident Evil 4 has been very well received and has gotten good feedback from retail, in response to our pricing strategy [of $29.99 in North America].

Rumor: Killer 7 Wii Edition

Is Capcom and Grasshopper Manufacture's psychological horror adventure game Killer 7 getting the Wii port treatment? Capcom of Europe implies such with its Killer 7 listing, hinting that the game originally designed for the GameCube may follow in the path of Resident Evil 4 and shoehorn in waggle control.

While such a listing may simply be an error, it would make a great deal of sense. Killer 7's on-rails gameplay and point-and-shoot action are a good fit for the Wii-remote. Plus, the game would take advantage of the Wii's expanded audience, filling in holes in the console's "mature" category. Still, checking with the usual online retail suspects turns up nothing and recent interviews with Grasshoper honcho Goichi Suda reveal no hints about such a project.

I've got an e-mail in with Capcom to see what they have to say.

Call of Duty 4 Officially Official for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC

Although they had already confirmed the game's existence via a sweet teaser trailer, Activision and Infinity Ward revealed Friday afternoon the specific platforms Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is in development for.

Sorry Wii fans, but it looks like you're being left out of this battle. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is strictly a true next-gen only effort, in development for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The Wii's lack of horsepower of course probably has a lot to do with its absence here. It would be a lot of work to port over the art assets for the title to the weaker Wii, which may not be justified this time around when there's no PS2 version to share the assets and cost of development with.

Whatever the reason, you'll find the official press release below:

Santa Monica, CA – May 25, 2007 – Grab your flashbangs and prepare to break cover for the most intense and cinematic Call of Duty® experience ever as Activision, Inc
