Ten years worth of games in Final Fantasy XIII

IGN's got a report on a recent interview that Square Enix's Shinji Hashimoto did in Japanese gaming mag Nintendo Dream. Talking about Final Fantasy XIII, he said "Different from something like VII, which we expanded upon afterwards, with Fabula Nova Crystallis FFXIII, we've thought about an expansive world setting from the start. Under the idea of wanting everyone to be sucked into the world for 10 years, we're preparing a number of categories." Judging by recent reports, it's a franchise we'll see on more than one system.

It's an interesting new direction to take for the Final Fantasy series. The additions to Final Fantasy VII didn't really work that well. Although on a technical level, Advent Children was an achievement, the simple truth was that the first game was enough to tell the story.

Final Fantasy XIII Spin-Offs Planned for 10 Years

Along with the main game, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and a mobile game sidequest, it looks like Square Enix is planning to stick around in the world of Final Fantasy XIII for a long while yet.

According to an article at IGN (with info taken from the same Nintendo Dream interview as our Square Enix Virtual Console story), Square Enix wants "everyone to be sucked into the world [of Final Fantasy XIII] for 10 years." Square Enix's Shinji Hashimoto stated they have designed the world and story of FFXIII, or Fabula Nova Crystallis, to be similar to the approach of Star Wars, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings -- an epic franchise unto itself.

Hashimoto admitted that Square Enix is preparing "a number of categories" (we assume he means genres) for future FFXIII-based games.

How many different versions of FFXIII we'll see and how long we'll have to wait for the fourteenth chapter of the series are questions that will likely remain unanswered for a long time yet.

Final Fantasy XIII Franchise To Last For A decade. At Least.

Square Enix has big plans for its Final Fantasy XIII franchise. In a recent interview, Square Enix's Shinji Hashimoto confessed that the FFXIII should be a gaming gem for around 10 years.

The producer unveiled its plans in an interview for Nintendo Dream, translated by IGN:"Different from something like VII, which we expanded upon afterwards, with Fabula Nova Crystallis FFXIII, we've thought about an expansive world setting from the start. Under the idea of wanting everyone to be sucked into the world for 10 years, we're preparing a number of categories." Expanding the Final Fantasy XIII on multiple platforms and for some years to come was an expected move. Square Enix had already taste success when doing the same thing with Final Fantasy VII.However, stretching Final Fantasy XIII for a decade seems a bit too much and nobody should be amazed if players begin getting bored of the whole thing altogether.

13:36 Square Enix speaks openly about Final Fantasy Versus XIII (0)

With the PlayStation 3 currently struggling to capture a similar market to that of the PlayStation 2, many people are looking towards Square Enix and its flagship Final Fantasy franchise as being the first of many saviours. Now the company has openly spoke about more details regarding the in-progress title.

Over on EuroGamer Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura was recently quizzed on all things related to the epic RPG Final Fantasy Versus XIII. The director of the side-project, part of six planned efforts in the Fabula Nova Crystallis umbrella of games, is renowned for creating characters such as Cloud Strife and the evil Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, in addition to the ones featured in the Disney RPG Kingdom Hearts.

Not much has been revealed at all about Versus, other than a few images and a pre-rendered action sequence that lasted all of five minutes.
