Medal of Honor to go airbourne

Electronic Arts announced that 'Medal of Honor Airborne', the newest installment from their critically-acclaimed 'Medal of Honor' franchise, will be released in Europe on August 31 this year.

The franchise has been credited with revolutionising the first-person-shooter (FPS) genre, and the developers of this latest title hope that it will redefine the series, introducing gamers to a new type of WWII FPS and allowing them to have a fully interactive airbourne experience.

"'Medal of Honor Airborne' is a new direction for the franchise introducing innovations that redefine the series as well as impact the FPS genre as a whole," explained Neil Young, VP and General Manager at EALA. "We can't wait for August when everyone can experience the new 'Medal of Honor', the first WWII game that allows the player to land anywhere and truly fight the way they want to."

'Medal of Honor Airborne' will be released on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Medal of Honor Airborne gameplay trailer

EA has released the first Medal of Honor Airborne featuring actual in-game footage. The much talked-about feature of dropping where you like and very open maps is demonstrated several times as well as various weapons and special effects.

In Airborne you play Boyd Travers, Private First Class of the 82nd Airborne Division. The missions range from Sicily to the final struggle in Germany. Every mission begins with a fully interactive airdrop and you can determine your own starting point, which changes the way each mission plays out. .

This year's TV heroes

Network TV tends to follow success, so it's looking for a few more heroes. Make that Heroes. And Ugly Bettys. And Sharks.

In a season with few real breakout hits -- nothing resembling the way Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives or Lost shook up previous seasons -- Heroes, Betty and Shark were the only new entries that could be considered more than cult successes. Some quality stuff debuted -- Friday Night Lights, 30 Rock, Men in Trees, Jericho -- but most of them struggled, and Jericho isn't even coming back. CBS introduced four new series last fall; only one of them will be around next fall.

Veteran series also faltered, with Fox's 24 and American Idol off in quality and ratings, and NBC's Law & Order barely escaping the cancellation ax. Serial dramas -- all the rage last fall as networks tried to duplicate the successes of Lost and 24 -- put too many demands on viewers' time, although much-praised shows such as NBC's Kidnapped and CBS' Smith barely got a chance to catch viewers' attention in the first place.

2007 Star Wars Weekends Merchandise

A few months ago, fans got a sneak peek at four new exclusive maquettes bound for this year's Star Wars Weekends at Disney-MGM Studios in Florida. Visitors will have a bunch more exclusives waiting for them this year when the annual event stops in for four consecutive weekends between June 1 and June 24, with a great poster, pins, figures and other collectibles now readying for release.

Action figure collectors will want to keep an eye out for the five cantina band members who will be offered in the new 2007 packaging with a Star Wars Weekends sticker attached. Each figure includes a different instrument, and pressing a button on the base plays a selection of cantina band music.

In addition to the slideshow depicting some of the Weekends wares fans can expect next month, we're also showcasing a selection of illuminated signage that will be appearing in Orlando International Airport this summer.

Do not fear a Finsac 2 - Wynter

The Financial Services Commission's (FSC) on going legal and public relations tussle with alternative investment schemes, Cash Plus and Olint was subject to intensive focus during the media briefing held on Wednesday. And the irony of the function held at the Hilton Kingston Hotel, allegedly owned by Cash Plus, did not escape the notice of the gathered journalists. Nevertheless, the regulator dismissed the idea that the possible collapse of either scheme would bring down the entire financial sector. "People should not fear a Finsac 2," explained Brian Wynter, executive director of the FSC.

The Financial Sector Adjustment Corporation (Finsac) was used by the government to bail out the financial sector that collapsed in the mid 1990s. The collapse was blamed on poor management decisions including the investment of depositors' short-term money in long-term assets such as hotels, orange and papaya farms and other real estate developments.
