Vid-games: Sudokus got digital game

Sudoku is easy to understand: All you have to do is fill in a grid with numbers. Within those constrictions, it turns out, theres a lot of room for variety, and a sudoku puzzle can be easy enough for a child or hard enough to torment a university logician.

It should be an easy thing to translate into a video game, but Ive been surprised by how many crummy sudoku programs Ive seen over the last two years. Ubisofts "Go! Sudoku," which came out last year for the PSP, is the best of the bunch, but it has gotten some competition lately.

_"Carol Vordermans Sudoku" (Eidos, for the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 2 , $19.99): Carol Vordermans site describes her as "one of Britains best known and loved TV personalities"; a handful of her sudoku books have been republished in the U.S.

PSP owners: Prepare for mind-bending puzzles with new Sudoku title

(CP) - In England, Carol Vorderman is a popular TV personality whose role as host of "Countdown" and other shows earns her three million pounds a year (C$6.6 million).

A member of MENSA and MBE (Member of the British Empire), Vorderman also authors Sudoku puzzle books and now has taken her expertise to the world of video games.

"Carol Vorderman's Sudoku" (rated E for Everyone for the PC, PlayStation 2, and PSP) is a terrific time-waster for both Sudoku novices and veterans. Perhaps best suited to the portable PSP, it boasts a million-plus puzzles, four difficulty levels and video tutorials.

Career mode offers eight levels, from white belt to master. You can also challenge Vorderman herself, trying to beat her time.

Developed by England's Atomic Planet Entertainment, Carol Vorderman's Sudoku offers an interface as simple as the game itself - with puzzles ranging from easy to mind-bending.

Kameleon Project Announced by Slitherine Software

Independently funded games developer Slitherine Software has come out with a very innovative way to help other independent developers bring their games to the market. They have announced the Kameleon Project, which will aid independent games developers to find the required work force.

For example, if a gaming studio has programmers but does not have the artists to make the artwork and environments, they can use the Kameleon Project to find some one who can do their artistic work. Likewise, a gaming developer may need other expert help too, like marketing personnel, sound engineers or designers. They can use the Slitherine Software's pioneering project for finding the exact match.

A gaming studio has already used the Kameleon Project. Firepower Entertainment's Commanders Europe at War is the first game to release from the Kameleon Project.
