Liberty City Stories Releasing In Japan (Finally)

If you live in Japan and you're a GTA fan, you're frequently frustrated. Why? Because for whatever reason, it takes a while for certain installments to get over there, and the PSP hit, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is no exception. The game is finally set for release on July 26 in Japan...and no, we're not talking about the sequel.

This is two years late; GTA: LCS released in the U.S. way back in 2005, but we suppose late is better than never. Capcom is always the publisher for the GTA titles over in Japan, and they apparently don't have the games high on their priority list. That's very weird, though, considering the Grand Theft Auto series is plenty popular over there. Let's hope Japanese gamers will be getting Grand Theft Auto IV a little sooner; waiting until 2009 would be downright unacceptable.

Capcom's 2006 Financials a Mixed Bag

Capcom released their full financial results from 2006 last year, and Gamasutra has all the dirty details. The cliff notes version: revenue and operating profit rose (6.1 and 45.9%, respectively), but net profits were down (15.7%). Capcom bragged about lowered development costs and several big releases: Dead Rising, Lost Planet, and Monster Hunter Freedom 2 (the first million-selling PSP title in Japan).

Along with Monster Hunter Freedom 2, there were several other big hits for Capcom in Japan, where sales rose 4.6%. This is largely due to encouraging sales of Mega Man: Star Force and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which Capcom published in that territory.

Overall sales are up for Capcom, with North American and European sales are still lagging far behind Japan. That said, with North American-targeted games such as Lost Planet and Dead Rising doing so well, sequels and future releases may help swing that around.

Puzzle Scape Preview

If there is one genre of titles that seem to do well on the PSP it's the puzzle genre. With the biggest launch title being Lumines it's only natural that PSP owners would continue to go after puzzle titles. One thing is for certain about puzzle titles and that's the fact they are very portable titles. Since the early days of the GameBoy and Tetris mobile gamers love playing puzzle games on the go. Well the PSP is about to get a new puzzle title with Puzzle Scape. Features : Four unique themes with 40 scenes: World of "Puzzle Scape" features four different themes of interactive evolutionary backgrounds from cells to dream like landscapes. Two single-player challenges: Work your way through themes and scenes, level by level of addictive block busting fun in time and goal oriented Architect mode and score-oriented free play Artist mode.

Mercury Meltdown Revolution rolls onto Wii in June

Ignition Entertainment has announced that Mercury Meltdown Revolution for Wii will be released across Europe on June 8. Based on PSP and PlayStation 2 games, Mercury Meltdown Revolution will feature 150+ levels through which blobs of mercury must be safely guided.

Although tilting has been the at the core of the series since its conception, the Wii version will be the first time players can control the in-game action by tilting the game controller.

We're also promised 480p visuals which have been improved thanks to some advanced rendering techniques possible on the Wii.
