Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Heads to PS2...Again

Ah, Christmas, that special time of year when families come together, set aside their differences, and celebrate a common principle: free stuff. Well, (if the media is to be believed) this Christmas could stand to make a lot of irresponsible parents accessory to murder, and all thanks to a bundle of Rockstar’s notorious Grand Theft Auto series set to come out this holiday season for the PS2. Details below:

New York, NY - November 7, 2006 - Rockstar Games, the world-renowned publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is pleased to announce that it plans to release Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas together as the original trilogy for the PlayStation 2 system. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy will ship to retail stores in North America on December 4, 2006 with a retail price of $39.99.Developed by Rockstar North, the critically acclaimed Grand Theft Auto series has been a defining franchise for the PlayStation 2 system, becoming synonymous with genre-shattering gameplay, cinematic scripts, and ground-breaking soundtracks.Additional information about Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas can be found at: http://www.rockstargames.com/grandtheftauto.

Haitians still dissatisfied with 'Racist' Vice City

Despite Rockstar already promising to amend future copies of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, removing the phrase 'kill the Haitians' from part of the game's dialogue branded 'racist' by the Haitian community, it now appears that the pressure groups are still dissatisfied, and have seized the continuing momentum to protest against stores still selling copies of the original game. Of course, if members of the minority Haitian community have read the reports concerning this 'racism' in the media, then it is little wonder many are still angry with Rockstar.

Ringo Cayard of the Haitian American Foundation commented that "It's too little, too late", and protests outside stores like Wal-Mart are planned - with protestors incensed that the title has made so much money already. A 'kill the Cubans' line in the game has already come under attack now, too.

Game Review: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories

I wasn't that big of a fan of the Liberty City Stories on the PSP, and certainly not on the PS2. It seemed like as a game, its main job was to prove that a Grand Theft Auto game could be done on the PSP, and as a tech demo in that regard it was impressive. The actual story was flat and the writing didn't have that sharp zing I expect from the GTA titles. In the time since its release things have changed: we have more respect for the power of the PSP while Rockstar has had some time to learn the hardware and see what it can do. So we know that the PSP can handle a real GTA game, and that the Rockstar teams knows how to use it. Can they now deliver a great entry into the series?

Vice City Stories impresses instantly: the graphics are amazing. The screws have all been tightened since Liberty City Stories; this doesn't feel like a hacked down PS2 game anymore, but the real thing.

UK Charts: Need for Speed takes pole position

Electronic Arts' racing franchise Need for Speed once again debuts at the top of the UK All Formats Charts, with latest offering Carbon claiming pole position with a lead over its nearest rival of just over 1000 units.

Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 6, last week's number one, sits behind at number two in the charts, with FIFA 07 and The Sims 2: Pets at number three and four, respectively.

Rockstar's Canis Canem Edit fails to climb the charts, staying at number five, while the publisher's PSP title Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories makes its debut at number six.

Falling down the charts are Sega's Football Manager 2007 at number seven and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent at eight.

The only other new entry in the top ten is THQ's expansion pack Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Dark Crusade at number nine, which sits ahead of VU Games' Scarface: The World is Yours at ten.

UK Not Scared Of Vice City Stories

While U.S. cities are pulling Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories ads from their public transportation systems, other countries seem to have no problem with it. In the U.K., where Bully was made to change its name and Rule of Rose's release was canceled due to media outcry, GTA is apparently A-OK. So ok, in fact, that instead of the regular on bus posters, they have decided to plaster the GTA:VCS ad on to the entire back of a bus.

Ok, kids, just so you know, bullying is wrong! Being mean to other children and torturing them with a rat on a stick is wrong! But hey, would you mind going over there and jacking that car? Don't forget to kill the driver! Oh, and while your at it, go have sex with that hooker. Flynn De Marco
