Now Showing

Hantu Jeruk Purut (Horror, 90 minutes) Starring Angie, Sheila M. Joseph, Samuel Z. Heckenbucker, Valia Rahma. Directed by Koya Pagayo.

When a novelist working on a book about the notorious, headless ghost of a priest lurking in a cemetery is mysteriously killed, a teenager (Angie, of hit film Virgin fame) boldly carries out the task of finishing the book. Meanwhile, the angry ghost sees to it that she never gets it done, with some terrorizing apparitions.

Although the film is not so bad as to invite unintended laughter from the audience (like the two local horror flicks released before it), it still fails to do justice to the original urban legend. The screenwriter seems to be lost in his own script, with too many insignificant subplots and characters.

Despite some rather scary apparitions now and then, the scares are cheap and badly choreographed; not to mention them being rip-offs from countless horror films in the library of modern cinema.

Crysis Programmer on Vista Audio Apocalypse

Wondering what sort of audio Crysis is going to have in lieu of the upcoming Vista 3D Audio Apocalypse? Crytek Audio Programmer Tomas Neumann had this to say: There are no plans to support OpenAL. All effects we are using are real-time DSP effects, or reverb. That provides the same sound quality to everyone on any platform (like Vista) with any sound card. .

11/27/06 - Spore Vehicle Editor Interview

Senior Producer Morgan Roarty tells PC Gamer about Spore's vehicle editor, covered in depth in our January 2007 issue, on sale December 12. Dig it!

PCG: What are the main components of the vehicle editor? Morgan Roarty: It's similar to the creature editor, where you start with a body that has a spine in it and you put pieces on it like a Mr. Potato Head doll. The difference with the vehicle editor is that all vehicles have a chassis [as the main piece on which the vehicle is built].

We didn't start with the chassis concept—we just thought the vehicle editor would be LEGO-style putting parts together. But born out of what we learned from the creature editor, we got the idea of the chassis, which everything pins to. The pinning is really key in the vehicle editor—it aligns pieces on the chassis, so for example, when you snap a wheel on, the wheels are symmetrical.
