In combining bubblegum pop, pretty trinkets and dress-up with a risqu treatment of the female form, Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 occupies a curious middle ground between Just 17 and Playboy; in danger of alienating the girls with its blatant voyeurism, while its cutesy guff threatens to put off the boys. Fuck the series apologists who claim its not about horny, pre-pubescent teenage lads and the DD-deprived Japanese getting their kicks from the polygonal realisation of the female body, because thats exactly what it is. However, to see Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 as just that is very foolish indeed. Behind the numerous (and they are numerous) shots of crotches and bouncing chests that flood the opening cut scene lies a game that isnt as dim as the air-headed dialogue would have the player believe. In jettisoning the Volleyball tag from the sequels title, Team Ninja have recognised that the series focus has always been the vacation as opposed to the sport; reinforced by a selection of brand new activities. Geometry Wars Mobile Announced It was recently announced that Geometry Wars Mobile was in the works, to be published, oddly, by Sony BMG. Although the original Geometry Wars wasn't developed by Microsoft (PGR3 developer Bizarre creations made the title), it still has become synonymous with "Xbox," which makes the news slightly strange, as first glance. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas ( Review ) It's hardly surprising, then, to note that several of the new additions railroaded into last year's Lockdown have been quietly ditched for Vegas - for very sound reasons. So, out go Ding Chavez (boo!), quicksaves, multiple pointless ways to blast a door down, tension-defeating heartbeat sensors, annoying trip wires and even more annoying sniping missions, and dense squad AI that seemed to have big problems shooting on target. The 'in' column makes for heartening reading: sensible checkpoint saves, Call Of Duty 2-style recharging heath system, superb squad AI, refined controls, duck and cover control system, squad revives, hugely improved visuals, multiple paths within levels, snakecam 'tagging' and, oddly, one fewer man in your squad.
