A Medal of Honor Worthy

In the ever changing landscape of video gaming, one thing will always stay constantly stocked on retail shelves, World War II games. While the Call of Duty franchise from Activision has thus far roamed the next-generation turf freely, EA will be bringing in the troops early next year with Medal of Honor: Airborne for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. To learn more about this possible Call of Duty killer, Executive Producer Patrick Gilmore was kind enough to answer some questions about the upcoming title and let us in what we should expect. What is Airborne all about? The story focus of the game is on the odyssey of the Airborne forces through World War II. There are five historic operations, Husky, Avalanche, Neptune, Market Garden and Varsity. As Private Travers and Pathfinder Eddie La Pointe, you will jump into each one, playing through Italy, France and, finally, Germany following the march to Berlin that effectively ended the European campaign.

Medal of Honor

That is exactly what Medal of Honor: Airborne players will have to parachute into when they boot up their respective game discs (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, or PS2, as well as the Wii, but no specific media available for Nintendo's console yet).

This is the gameplay trailer to Electronic Arts' newest addition to the MoH series, uploaded to YouTube by wastingnick. Are these clips of the action running off Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3? Can't tell (we downloaded the same trailer from IGN to get a closer look), sure looks pretty enough, but don't quote us on that.

Anyway, airsickness is the least of your worries if you're going to jump into this:

Medal of Honor Airborne teaser trailer

With Call of Duty 3 being console-only (argh, the pain), we have to turn our hopes for the next great WW2 shooter to Medal of Honor: Airborne. Luckily the EA developers have indicated high ambitions for the latest MoH title (which it needs after horrors like Rising Sun).

This teaser trailer sadly doesn't show any in-game footage, but sets the mod for a cool mission over Sicily. .

Call of Duty 3 (360) for XBO video game review and cheats

When Call of Duty 2 made its appearance on the 360 last year, it definitely left a lasting impact and gave most of us a glimpse of what next-gen gaming could be. Now, it's a year later and developers have had ample time to better understand the 360 and start taking advantage of its resources. Knowing that the Call of Duty series has turned into one of the flag ships of Activision, you might expect a solid showing. But how fresh can a WWII game feel with three versions of Call of Duty and countless other quality WWII games available? Although some might be turned off by that from afar, once you start playing you'll quickly become engrossed in WWII action yet again.

This time around, instead of focusing on fighting through numerous different battles across the entire war, liberating Paris is your primary objective.

After dark: Celebrate the new month at happy hour

The holiday season is in full swing, with events galore filling up the calendar. Even the non-holiday happenings seem to be a bit more exciting, a bit cheerier than normal, as everyone gets in the holiday spirit.

This week brings concerts, Midnight Madness, wine dinners and more to the plate read on to find out when and where all the fun will happen.

Celebrate the beginning of December with one of the great happy hours in town. If free food and craft beer is what you need, head to Rams Head Tavern (33 West St.) or Rams Head Roadhouse (1773 Generals Highway) where a lavish buffet of buffalo and specialty wings is served up every Friday from 5-7. Wash down those spicy wings with $1.95 Fordham drafts and $2.50 house wines, rail drinks and Jack Daniels drinks served from 4-7.

Ridge Racer 7 Review

Another PlayStation launch, another Ridge Racer. Or, should we say, RIDGE RACER! The PS3's installment offers up some interesting new gameplay options but, for the most part, there's not a lot that's different about Ridge Racer 7. That's good for some, not so much for others.

Since its inception, Ridge Racer has been all about arcade racing. This is most certainly not a sim, so all you Gran Turismo fans can look somewhere else for inspiration. The name of the game here is drifting and boosting, zooming across a variety of cityscapes and countrysides with a first place finish in mind.

This mechanic returns in Ridge Racer 7. In fact, other than one notable addition on the control side of things, the gameplay is almost identical to last year's Ridge Racer 6. So, if you played through that one and didn't really enjoy the ride, you're gonna wanna skip this one.

Second Test Drive: Unlimited patch underway

More patch news, on their community forums Atari has announced that the second patch for Test Drive: Unlimited "has passed the first of two stages at Microsoft". The patch is expected this wednesday, if everything goes smoothly that is. While the exact contents of the patch are unknown, it supposedly fixes a bug corrupting save games. Another forum moderator states that the previously announced DLC is scheduled for a release before the end of this month.

Group releases annual video game report card

With the holiday shopping season under way, the National Institute on Media and the Family has released its 11th annual video game report card.

The group urged parents to take a stronger role in safeguarding their children from games that glamorize sex and violence.

"Pay attention to the games your kids, our kids, are playing," said Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., who joined institute officials at a news conference Wednesday. "It's really time to focus on the parents and urge parents to pay attention."

LET'S GO TO THE VIDEO CLIPS

The group showed graphic scenes of sex and violence from several newly released video games. Advocates said they wanted to make parents and kids aware of some of the games they should avoid on store shelves this holiday season.
