VE Votes 2006: Best First-Person-Shooter?

This week's VE poll asks, What was the best first-person-shooter from 2006? Vote on your right! And no, Gears of War isn't a FPS, which is why it isn't included (cough). I didn't put HL2: Episode 1 in there either, as its an expansion pack, but did include Sin Episodes because it is a stand-alone game.

Here are the results from last week's strategy poll: VE Votes 2006: Best Strategy Game?
Company of Heroes [1116 votes]
Medieval 2: Total War [261 votes]
Battle for Middle Earth II [157 votes]
Star Wars: Empire at War [128 votes]
Heroes of Might and Magic V [120 votes]
Darwinia [101 votes]
DEFCON [94 votes]
Rise of Legends [69 votes]
Warhammer: Mark of Chaos [96 votes].

'Medieval II: Total War' Goes Gold - Screens

Medieval 2: Total War is the latest release from the highly acclaimed developer, The Creative Assembly, who SEGA made headline news by acquiring in 2005. The game boasts an impressive array of new graphical and gameplay enhancements, including the capability for a massive 10,000 dynamic characters to be taken into battle at any one time. On top of this, The Creative Assembly have implemented a fully redesigned multiplayer mode that offers a dynamic multi-battle campaign bolstered by an unprecedented level of visceral combat choreography that reflects the brutality of medieval warfare.

Medieval 2: Total War offers a vastly enhanced terrain model to create new graphically rich environments portraying breathtaking cliff top castles and enhanced settlement features that are unique to each civilisation.

Gamers join Holy War

A QUEENSLAND-based games developer looks like rewriting the record books. Creative Assembly, a company owned by Sega with offices in Fortitude Valley, is releasing Medieval Total War 2 and not only does the game look like being a corker, but it is also on track to being the largest selling PC game developed in Australia.

The game will feature a cavalcade of 3D combatants from a pivotal period in world history. The game's focus will be on the years 1080 to 1530, with battles taking place in Europe, the Middle East and even the freshly discovered Americas. Medieval will feature more unusual factions this time like the Aztecs, as well as the usual European and Middle Eastern powers.

The game will feature an in-depth strategic campaign mode as well as massive real-time battles as you try to prevail in a particular region.

Australian "Game Of The Year" Announced

The Australian developer community isn't exactly the world's biggest, but it's always been a quality-over-quantity kind of affair. Tribes: Vengeance, Freedom Force, Transformers Armada, Destroy All Humans and Rome: Total War being the most noteworthy games Aussie devs have crafted/played a significant role in over the past few years.

It's been a bit of a dry-spell this year, though, with only two major international games seeing release: Destroy All Humans 2 and Medieval II: Total War. The Game Developers' Association of Australia "Game of the Year" award winners were announced yesterday, so the big honours were naturally going to go to one of those two. More @ source.

Feature: 16 Reasons Why We Love Total War

Over the last six years, the Total War series has blown strategy/war gamers away with a unique blend of highly tactical real-time battles and deep economic/political strategy elements.

The series was the first tactical war game to allow the player to control very large 3D-based armies without serious performance issues (well, assuming you had a decent PC). This was such a feat that the History Channel's Decisive Battles TV show used the Total War engine to recreate famous battles in history.

The three games in the series - Shogun: Total War, Medieval: Total War, and Rome: Total War have all received excellent review marks.

In a few weeks, Sega will be releasing Medieval 2: Total War. In honor of the game's stupendous run, we decided to highlight some great moments from the series' history.
