MICROSOFT HAS SOLD MORE THAN 1M ZUNES

Microsoft has said that the company has shipped more than one million digital music players. Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's entertainment and devices division, said, "It's a good start. It's not an overwhelming start. I'm not going to pretend it's some gigantic move".In January 2007, however, Market research firm Current Analysis, had released results on how Microsoft's digital music player Zune has fared in the market. According to the results, Zune could not get into the top ten list of music players sold during the holiday season in the United States.According to the research, iPod remained the number one device. Apple accounted for 64 per cent of digital audio devices sold during the period, Sandisk for 22 per cent and Microsoft for 3 per cent.Microsoft Zune Marketplace Vs. Apple's iTunesZune devices come preloaded with music from record labels including DTS, EMI Music's Astralwerks Records and Virgin Records, Ninja Tune, Playlouderecordings, Quango Music Group, Sub Pop Records, and V2/Artemis Records. If the Zune store sports easy usability features like iTunes, offers an impressive and flexible array of content for Zune owners, and if it evolves to have different kinds of video and audio media available similar to iTunes, the Zune marketplace has the potential to become a decent competitor to the Apple iTunes universe, this was the viewpoint of Microsoft when the device was launched in November. Its All About the MusicWhile video has grabbed the digital media spotlight in recent daysSeattle-based online retailer Amazon.com announced a movie downloading serviceMicrosoft made clear that despite Zune's ample screen, this player is about the music."When we decided to approach this thing, we decided to celebrate the experience of music," said Bryan Lee, the Microsoft entertainment executive. The device plays videos, even orienting the playback in landscape format to take advantage of the larger screen.

Call of Duty 4 Officially Official for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC

Although they had already confirmed the game's existence via a sweet teaser trailer, Activision and Infinity Ward revealed Friday afternoon the specific platforms Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is in development for.

Sorry Wii fans, but it looks like you're being left out of this battle. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is strictly a true next-gen only effort, in development for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The Wii's lack of horsepower of course probably has a lot to do with its absence here. It would be a lot of work to port over the art assets for the title to the weaker Wii, which may not be justified this time around when there's no PS2 version to share the assets and cost of development with.

Whatever the reason, you'll find the official press release below:

Santa Monica, CA – May 25, 2007 – Grab your flashbangs and prepare to break cover for the most intense and cinematic Call of Duty® experience ever as Activision, Inc.

Mercenaries mooted for handhelds

With Pandemic presently creating Mercenaries 2: World in Flames for the PC, PS2, Xbox 360 and PS3, to be published by EA, designer Scott Warner has let slip during an interview that he would very much like to see the war simulation series tackle handheld platforms in the future.

Speaking to UK games website Eurogamer.net, he hinted that Pandemic might look more closely at possibilities once the game is completed for consoles and the PC. "At the moment we're only concentrating on the versions of the game we've announced, but I'd love for us to work on a handheld version of Mercs!" the lead designer enthused.

He added that anything is possible, once the title is released this winter. Mercenaries 2 is looking better than ever, its accuracy levels perhaps proving a little too close to the bone for some - with officials from Venezuela (the game's setting) decrying the title as little more than American propaganda.

Test Drive Unlimited review (PlayStation 2)

Quite a few people are getting reasonably excited about this Melbourne House port of the Eden racer and are amazed at how well the PS2 version holds up against the Xbox 360 version. But where the free-roaming island arrives relatively intact, there are many features that haven't made the cut.

At its core, TDU Xbox 360 game had an interesting concept of being able to drive around the 1000 miles or so of Oahu road. The majority of the fun came not from the plethora of races and challenges on offer but instead from the ability to drive around the Hawaiian island, taking in the sights, chilling out for a while and getting to check out the interiors of some of the cars youve always wanted to sit in but knew the car salesman would never let you anywhere near.
