Need for Speed Carbon

Electronic Arts decided that they needed to change up the equation a little and they attempted that with Need for Speed Carbon. Whether or not the change is the correct one is a different subject. There are many street racers out on the market nowadays that dilute the genre and make everything feel subnormal. EA is hoping that they can push their way through the crowd and become king of the racers once again. Sadly, Need for Speed: Carbon isn’t the answer to all their prayers.

The most desired mode of play that was missing from Need for Speed: Most Wanted happened to be the drifting mode. After taking a year off and tinkering with the mechanics, EA is ready to reintroduce the mode to the masses. Unfortunately the addition comes with a subtraction; EA has taken the police chases down a notch and decided to focus on team-based racing.

Need for Speed: Carbon (Xbox 360) Review

Since the 2003 release of Need for Speed Underground, EA's seminal auto-racing series has been forever entwined with the tuner culture that inspired that particular entry. Thus far, all three titles following Underground (two with handheld spin-offs) have adhered to this theme, adding onto it with sandbox-grade gamescapes and new sort of races to gun your tricked-out economy clunker through. We now focus our attention to the latest iteration of the NFS franchise, Need for Speed Carbon. And while I am going to pick this game apart to see what's under the hood, I'm not going to try to figure out what the name means. Graphics The graphics will likely be the first thing most will notice about this game, as this title is damn pretty. All the car models in this game look authentic to their real-life counterparts and utterly beautiful in their own right, especially on the 360.

FIFA knocks Gears off top ( News )

In the run up to Christmas, Electronic Arts has taken FIFA 07 back to the top of the All Formats charts, knocking last week's number one, Gears of War, down to number three.

Shifting gears to take the number two position is Need for Speed Carbon, a franchise that has taken the coveted Christmas number one title in previous years.

EA also takes the number four position with The Sims 2: Pets, while Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 6 manages to climb this week, up one place to number five.

GameZone › News › Madden NFL 07, Need for Speed Carbon and ...

Electronic Arts today helped kick off the launch of the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system with perennial hits Madden NFL 07, Need for Speed Carbon and Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 07. Each of these stunning high-definition titles has been custom-created for the PlayStation 3 to take advantage of the advanced power of the CELL processor and the motion-sensitive SIXAXIS controller. On December 5th, EA will add to its PlayStation 3 portfolio with the release of EA SPORTS Fight Night Round 3 and in the months that follow, several more games including NBA STREET Homecourt and Def Jam: ICON.

"Today marks the end of the console transition. From here on out, it is all about great games," said Frank Gibeau, Executive Vice President of North America Publishing at EA. "EA is dedicating its most powerful franchises to the launch of PS3, and in the weeks and months ahead you're going to see more games with innovative features reaching out to new audiences."

Today, gamers and gift-givers nationwide can find these three games in stores:

Need for Speed Carbon and the PlayStation 3 introduce the world to a whole new way to play Need for Speed.

Review: Need for Speed - Carbon

Xbox: The Need for Speed series has taken the gaming world by storm since it decided to include the Tuner culture in the gameplay.

Now, in the latest addition, EA has taken the racing experience one step further and thrown in the latest craze of downhill drifting, as seen in the Fast and the Furious film, Tokyo Drift.

The gameplay in Carbon has taken a turn for the better this year, with a different layout and the inclusion of a few goodies. First, your goal is to take over the city by winning several races in each neighbourhood. Then you race in a Canyon Duel to own it outright. These are two-stage races down a hillside with the winner taking control of the neighbourhood and, possibly, the opponent's ride. Players also have their own crew who you sometimes get to race with, who consist of blockers, drafters and scouts.

UK Chart Highlights LXXXX | Sony & Microsoft Shake Nintendo Off

We have gone from seeing Nintendo rise from the ashes earlier this year when Mario & Luigi made a surprising entry into the Top 10 of the All Format chart, but this was not followed-up until the end of March with the launch of Animal Crossing, then Brain Training in June and New Super Mario Bros. in June. Sadly Electroplankton failed to make an impact, Big Brain Academy was underwhelming, 42 All-Time Classics has already stuttered and collapsed, the DS Browser sunk without a trace, whilst Sudoku Master never even made the DS Top 20 last week! Where is the next hit going to come from now that the Pink DS Lite has been launched? Need for Speed bursts Konamis football After a massive first week splurge to reach No.1 last week, Pro Evolution Soccer 6 drops to No.2 this week, being beaten by just over 1,000 units as Need for Speed: Carbon parks its shiny metal ass in the top spot.
