Sony: 41 Network Games In Development

Thus far, the PlayStation Store has been enjoying fairly consistent updates, as gamers have been seeing new trailers, demos, and full downloadable titles since the PS3's launch last November. Major updates abound, like the first - and very good - arcade title, flOw, Sony's Christmas present to all in the form of a Gran Turismo HD demo, and the latest fantastic playable demo of Ninja Gaiden Sigma. But according to Sony, they're just heating up.

SCEA president and CEO, Jack Tretton, recently told GamePro that the amount of PlayStation Network content will soon be off the charts.

"We have 41 games in development devoted to the Network, not just talking about PSone games being enabled. We're talking about games developed specifically for the PS3," Tretton said.

He didn't go into specifics regarding estimated release dates, but he did say we should expect to see the majority of them later on this year, perhaps closer to the holidays.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma gone gold!

Ninja Gaiden Sigma is the PlayStation 3-remake of the Xbox-classic Ninja Gaiden. Not only the graphics will be completely renewed (that's only natural), but there will be new weapons, moves, a new character and more available. The game went gold a few hours ago, which means the final version is ready for massproduction and we can buy it in the near future. After a release in Japan on 14th June and America on 4th July it's Europe's turn, "somewhere during the summer".

Ninja Gaiden Sigma Release Date Announced

It's 1:23am in Japan, and I just got back from Tecmo's Night Nite Out '07 where Manager of High End Production and Director of Ninja Gaiden Sigma Yousuke Hayashi nailed down the release date of July 7. Available for play at the event, a near-final build of Sigma showed off the much-improved (at least, for masochists) AI of its enemy ninjas. These jerks use all of Ryu's signature moves (jump sword smash, stabbing fallen victims on the floor and, particularly annoying, throwing shurikens) against him, increasing the difficulty of an already challenging title.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma completed!

Today, Yosuke Hayashi, the Ninja Gaiden Sigma director, revealed at the Tecmo's Nite Out 07 conference that Team Ninja has completed development of Ninja Gaiden Sigma. "We just finished development recently," Hayashi stated. He also revealed the release dates of the game for Japan and North America. It will be launched in Japan on 14th June and in North America on 3rd July. Hayashi didn't reveal the European release date, since this is in the hands of Eidos, who recently stated that the title would be available in Europe this summer. Along with the Ninja Gaiden Sigma announcements, the president of Tecmo, Yasuda, revealed that they will establish a new development team at the beginning of this month. The new development team will be called "Team Tachyon". Yasuda explained that tachyons move at the speed of light, and with this name, Tecmo intends to break that speed limit (whatever that means).

Hands-On: Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword

Can the graphical powerhouse action series make its way to the DS? We got some time with the game-- and Team Ninja's leader, Tomonobu Itagaki.

Check out our exclusive interview with Team Ninja's founder, Tomonobu Itagaki, as he chats candidly about the Ninja Gaiden series and Team Ninja's expansion to new consoles.

While Ninja Gaiden/Black/Sigma may be one of the greatest action games of all time, forgive us if we say the series has grown a little long in the tooth. Sure, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is gorgeous, and could be one of the PS3's best, but it's more of a refinement than a reinvention. For those who hope to teach an old Ninja Dog some new tricks, Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword may be the answer to your adrenaline-fueled prayers.
