02:16 Playstation Portable soon to become Playstation Phone (0) In a strange turn of events, well, an ambitious one at least, Sony and BT (British Communications) have just announced that the versatile little gaming-guidebook thing, the Playstation Portable, is turning into a phone. Update A recent news report made by BBC provides a few more details on the PSP phone project. In the beginning the software will only allow communication between PSPs and some BT phones, however the capabilities will then be extended to PCs, fixed lines and mobiles. The service will also only be offered through a BT home internet connection or through a BT Openzone Wi-Fi hotspot. End Update Plans to add “wireless broadband communications functions, including high quality handheld video calls, voice calls and messaging" to the Playstation Portable were announced yesterday by BT and Sony.
Nab a Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) For $139; Select UMDs for $4.99 Sony recently dropped the price on its PlayStation Portable handheld to $169, edging it closer to the DS in price. A deal spotted at a Sam Goody store tightens the gab of the $129 Nintendo DS Lite to the Sony PSP by $10. Sam Goody is offering the Sony PSP Core for $139.99 by offering a $30 mail-in-rebate. The deal is available until this Wednesday, but it may be extended an additional week.
This deal is not available online, but at local stores only. Check the Sam Goody store locator (here) to find one in your area. Several UMD movies are available for $4.99 as well, in limited quantity and selection of course. I definitely recommend checking the PSP out at that price. There are some great looking titles on the horizon, including God of War: Chains of Olympus, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War and Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles to name only a few! PlayStation 3 update adds upscaling Sony on Wednesday announced the forthcoming release of a new software update for its PlayStation 3 video game console, expected to be releasedon Thursday, May 24. New features in the new release include video upscaling capabilities and more PSP Remote Play functionality.
