April NPD: Guess What? Nintendo Dominated Sales Again

The prophecy is fulfilling. Market research firm NPD Group, a provider of video games sales date in North America, released today its April 2007 report. For a four consecutive month, Nintendo took the crown in both hardware and software sales. The NPD report threw a mixed bag; cumulative sales of software, hardware, and accessories accounted for a total of US$838.6 million, a 20 percent increase over April 2006. But while hardware sales grew 52 percent during the month, to $338.4 billion, software sales declined 1 percent to $389.8 million. Many analysts blamed these lower software sales to a lack of successful games. Those same analysts previously forecasted a rise of 15 to 24 percent in software sales The Wii was the top-selling new console for the fourth month in a row, with Nintendo selling 366,000 units of its $250 machine, surpassing for the first time the PS2 and all other home systems.
