New Sly Cooper Titles Revealed In PSM

The PS2 had a great assortment of top-notch platformers, and one of the more overlooked franchises was Sly Cooper, which always took a backseat to the likes of Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter. However, Sly had several top-notch installments, and the agile raccoon has his share of fans. Those fans are gonna be happy when they read the latest issue of PSM, too.

The magazine sports an interview with Sucker Punch, and during the talk, they mention that we should expect to see Sly Cooper 4 -presumably for the PS3 - at E3, and an exclusive new Sly for the PSP as well. As for the slick new fourth installment, the developers had this to say:

"The graphics have been majorly overhauled and the gameplay will be more varied and focused this time around. We're aiming for a fully interactive 3-d world, with no loads and seamless interaction between settings and characters."

Why do we assume it's for the PS3? Because the two Sly games are slated to come out simultaneously and they will have connectivity with one another! This will be the first time we've seen this in the new generation; a game coming out at the same time for PS3 and PSP, and featuring connectivity as a bonus right off the bat.

The PS3 are clearing the halls for with releases due in September.

Word has it that Sony has released dates and titles for their games that will be make a debut in September. After starting out on the loose end, with their launch of the PS3, and very few titles to tag along with the system, loyal fans will have a lot to look forward to this fall. Some of the games that were mentioned to be released are Heavenly Sword, which places you in the role of a heroine who must guide her way through waves of enemies, a mystical and dragon fighting game Lair and The Air, vehicular combat game Warhawk, first person shooter Killzone, and of course Ratchet & Clank. There was also talk about adding the PS2 game Wipeout Fusion to the September debut.

PAL PS3 Backwards Compatibility Updated

When it was announced that the graphics synthesizer chip wouldn't be included in PAL PS3s, which means they wouldn't have full backwards compatibility, it was super-huge news. But as it turns out, nearly three-quarters of the PS2 library was playable on the PS3 right off the bat, despite the drawback. Furthermore, much like with the Xbox 360, Sony would continue to add more games to the backwards compatibility list as time went on.

And after the latest software Update 1.70, they have indeed updated the b/c list to reflect several new additions. Among them; the popular Gran Turismo, Ratchet and Clank, and Prince of Persia games, which should work flawlessly on the PS3 now, and several other PS3 titles - like Amplitude - have also been added.

Check the official PAL PS3 backwards compatibility site to see what the current status is for your games.

Release Date: November 2007

While Naughty Dog's off proving it can make edgier games than ever, that's old hat for Insomniac. After years of cuddly fire-breathing dragons and platformers with double-entendres, Insomniac moved onto some fairly dark material with Resistance: Fall of Man. It paid off, as the PS3 launch title has become something of a rallying point for PlayStation Network gameplay.

But even as Nathan Hale battled the Chimera threat, we couldn't help but think of Ratchet & Clank. Seriously, even in an alternate 1951, those guns seemed like the crazy inventions that we saw in the Insomniac team's PS2 blockbusters. With that in mind, we were pleased to get our first look at the next-gen debut of a series that has sold millions of copies to parents who had no idea what the subtitles actually meant.
