£1000 Laptop and Medieval PC game

Sega have announced the release of the eagerly anticipated Medieval II: Total War, the follow up to one of the most critically acclaimed PC games of all time, Rome: Total War.

The fourth instalment of the multi-million selling Total War strategy franchise evolves the genre to a whole new level with the most epic and cinematic 3D battles ever seen on PC.

Set in the darkest and most chaotic era in European history, Medieval II: Total War's campaign spans over 500 years.

Nobody wants to be lonely in Age of Conan

At least the first twenty character levels of Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures is supposed to be, for the most part, a single-player experience. A single-player quest, or "destiny quest". At least that was the Funcom devs' intent. If there was going to be any MMO experience during this "destiny quest" phase (or else, why call it an MMORPG?), it would be in "communal areas" for, in the devs' own words, social interaction and "drunken brawls".

Hey, from our perspective, a drunken brawl's a good enough reason to socialize in an MMO world (are we talking about early PvP here, Funcom? Maybe not...). But we digress.

But things change during beta tests. Players give their opinions, or they rant, or they ask for certain features to be included in the game. So in the latest Behind the Scenes feature from the community site, the devs reveal that, within this single player-centric "destiny quest" portion of the game, they're throwing in a multiplayer co-op dungeon/area to play in as a team.

Australian "Game Of The Year" Announced

The Australian developer community isn't exactly the world's biggest, but it's always been a quality-over-quantity kind of affair. Tribes: Vengeance, Freedom Force, Transformers Armada, Destroy All Humans and Rome: Total War being the most noteworthy games Aussie devs have crafted/played a significant role in over the past few years.

It's been a bit of a dry-spell this year, though, with only two major international games seeing release: Destroy All Humans 2 and Medieval II: Total War. The Game Developers' Association of Australia "Game of the Year" award winners were announced yesterday, so the big honours were naturally going to go to one of those two. More @ source.

Feature: 16 Reasons Why We Love Total War

Over the last six years, the Total War series has blown strategy/war gamers away with a unique blend of highly tactical real-time battles and deep economic/political strategy elements.

The series was the first tactical war game to allow the player to control very large 3D-based armies without serious performance issues (well, assuming you had a decent PC). This was such a feat that the History Channel's Decisive Battles TV show used the Total War engine to recreate famous battles in history.

The three games in the series - Shogun: Total War, Medieval: Total War, and Rome: Total War have all received excellent review marks.

In a few weeks, Sega will be releasing Medieval 2: Total War. In honor of the game's stupendous run, we decided to highlight some great moments from the series' history.

Review: Medieval II: Total War

Creative Assembly has been busy working on its excellent Total War series over the last few years and they continue their tradition of seamless blending of grand strategy with individual set-piece battles in Medieval II: Total War.

The franchise's previous game, Rome: Total War, represented a grand leap forward in the series, but Medieval II has instead refined the formula set out in Rome. The existing framework has been tightened without significant changes to the fundamental gameplay.
