Dean, Nooch and PlayStation 3 debug units

Are you reading elsewhere that Sony got a bunch of "debug'' PS3 units (not the final consumer version but capable of playing nearly finished games) into the hands of reviewers?

Yes, Dean and I have ours. I picked them up personally Friday; I began playing "Resistance: Fall of Man'' last night, plus a little "Ridge Racer."

Stay tuned, we'll have lots to say.

Interesting, though, how torn I am: As exciting as the PS3 is, the late-year avalanche of games has produced a stack of titles for PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable and Xbox 360 that I'd also like to devote time to. At the top of my list: "Killzone Liberation'' and "Death Jr. II: Root of Evil'' for the PSP; "FEAR" and "Marvel Ultimate Alliance'' for the 360, and "Bully,'' "Family Guy'' and "Snoopy vs.

Pangya Season 2 Set For Philippine Release In December

Manila, Philippines (AHN) - The local publisher of online fantasy golf game "Pangya" has announced the December release of Season 2 in the Philippines, a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer says.

Jane Walker, chief executive officer of Level Up! Philippines, said the game has a huge following with over 100,000 people playing "Pangya" online each day.

The Level Up! executive said casual games like "Pangya" is attracting more followers than games like "Ragnarok" which attracts mostly dedicated gamers. But she said the company will still continue developing its subscription-based online games.

She told the PDI, "Role playing games are still growing since we believe that casual gamers eventually graduate to hardcore gaming."

Although she said marketing online games in the Philippines is facing challenges especially from parents and teachers who have been complaining about the popularity of internet games.

Game Daze: 'Sid Meier's Railroads!,' 'Magical Starsign,' 'Snoopy ...

No matter how old you are, odds are there's always been a moment when you've been fascinated by toy trains. Go ahead, accept it. You know it's true, so don't bother fighting it. It's nothing to be ashamed of, even if it lasted only a minute or two.

"Sid Meier's Railroads!" ($39.99; PC; E for Everyone) taps into that feeling of joy that comes from creating a working train set and a fully functioning city.

What makes it such a family hit is that it brings in elements that both older and younger gamers can enjoy. There's no doubt younger players will take pleasure in laying down tons of track and upgrading trains that look sleek and chug hard down the tracks. The adults can aid in this by handling and teaching the environment and economics of the game, which drive the 15 historical "missions" you'll play.

Look out, Red Baron, Snoopy's on the warpath

Take a look at most of the Peanuts games released over the years, and you'll probably find that most of them revolve around Snoopy. A bunch of depressed schoolchildren aren't much to hang a video game on, after all, but the possibilities are endless when you're dealing with a dog who thinks he's anything from a vulture to big man on campus. Yet Snoopy vs. the Red Baron gets carried away from its simplistic title with an increasingly bizarre military campaign, much to the detriment of its source material, though not necessarily the game itself.

Part of the charm of the World War I Flying Ace strips was that the Red Baron remained unseen, and the point of view focused on Snoopy, balanced atop of his doghouse, facing right in grim determination. Even the sequence during the television special "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" stayed within this formula of showing the action strictly from the side, relying instead on flashes of color in the background and a tightly framed loop-the-loop to animate the dogfight.

Kid dynamite: `Viva Pinata' leads parade of family-friendly games

(AP) - Kids grow up so fast these days. One minute they're happy collecting Pokemon; the next, they're begging you to buy them "Grand Theft Auto." But there is a middle ground of games that are easy enough for kids to pick up yet sophisticated enough to appeal to adults. The news isn't so good for parents who are concerned about creeping commercialism. Almost every children's game we've seen this year has been connected to a larger enterprise such as a movie, a TV show or a toy line. Even an original intellectual property like Microsoft's "Viva Pinata" has morphed into a Saturday morning cartoon.Still, a lot of these licensed games are pretty good. And even some of us grown-ups would prefer to play as Snoopy rather than Scarface. .

Command & Conquer 3 Coming To Xbox 360 [ News ]

Following the experiment of releasing Battle for Middle-Earth II on the next-gen console, EA finally confirms that Tiberium Wars will be heading to Xbox 360... Author: Jon Wilcox | Date Added: 17/11/2006

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars on Xbox 360

Electronic Arts has announced that the popular game Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars will soon be available on the Xbox 360. EA appears to be pumping for real-time strategy genre on Xbox. These kinds of games were limited due to the restrictions of the standard console controller and hence many developers were often ignoring this sector. The people behind C&C were also involved in the creation of Battle for Middle-earth II; so exciting times are ahead for real-time strategy enthusiasts. EA has also announced that it will make extensive use of the Xbox Live marketplace to ensure a "steady stream of content" for fans. .

GamesIndustry.biz: Five Years of Xbox ( Article )

Despite the countless millions pumped into its aggressive marketing campaign, Xbox's birth was anything but idyllic. By the time it hit the shelves, PS2 already boasted an impressive back catalogue, which included PS2-exclusive, multi-million selling franchises such as the Grand Theft Auto series.

Microsoft's task was made even harder when Sony inevitably dropped the price of PS2 on the eve of Xbox's launch - a tactic which helped the machine almost triple its previous year's sales figures from 6.4 million to 18.5 million, further hampering Microsoft's early efforts to gain a convincing foothold on the market.

But Xbox wasn't without its own fair share of merits, not least its excellent online capabilities, built-in hard drive and vastly superior system specs which provided developers with some exciting new possibilities.
