03:54 Arcade news: Ecco, Sonic, Mad Tracks, PoP, Space Giraffe (1)

As if a Halo roundup wasn't enough, a load of Arcade news has flooded the headlines and filling the news queue. Rather than individual posts, you can read after the jump about new games discovered on the ESRB site; how well Mad Tracks is doing in certification; why Prince of Persia is coming to the Arcade; and find out how far along the line Space Giraffe is.

Starting with Ecco the Dolphin and Sonic the Hedgehog, both games have been spotted on the ESRB site, with both of them being listed in the same breath as the Wii. Therefore the game must be the same as the one on the Wii (except for the enhancements such as Leaderboards) otherwise both Sonic and Ecco would be listed separately from the Wii listing. This suggests then that both Sonic and Ecco seem to be coming to the Arcade for definite now, which is certainly a good thing.

Some secrets are best left untold

Gamers looking for a return to Sonic the Hedgehog's glory days should be wary about picking up Sonic and The Secret Rings for the Nintendo Wii. Though superior to most of Sonic's recent outings, the game ultimately falls short. Navigating Sonic through some big, colourful and chaotic levels is fun, but as the tasks become trickier, the controls will have you tripping over your own thumbs. To make matters worse, you'll have to endure an incredibly cheesy story.Storylines have never been a Sonic staple. This time around, however, Sonic is all about story - the Arabian Nights, a collection of stories, in fact. Pages of the book are being erased by the evil genie Erazor Djinn and Sonic is recruited by a good genie to save the land. The storytelling is somewhat irritating because it is done through comic book storyboarding and corny voice acting. There are seven levels that you will encounter in the game, but each employs varying objectives and multiple run-throughs to lengthen the game.

Nintendo Wii Review: Super Paper Mario

From first glance, Super Paper Mario looks no different than any of the other Mario RPG games, but underneath that characteristic look lies a game that not only changes the way that Mario RPG games have been played, but is a title no Wii owner should be without.

The game opens with a sequence of events that you’l need to watch to understand the game, involving Bowser marrying Princess Peach, with Luigi present at the wedding. Mario, however, is noticeably missing from this scene, hinting that something might just be fishy here.

Turns out Mario was doing the world a favor by keeping Peach out of Bowser’s hands, as their marriage fulfills a prophecy that will bring about the end of the world as we know it, with the nefarious Count Bleck trying to set the whole thing into motion.
