Archlord crucified again, this time by Gaming Nexus for 2.6/10

You know it is not a good sign when picking up a new game if you have to schedule time to force yourself to sit down and play it. Such is the case with Codemaster's latest MMO, Archlord. Nothing in the manual, or the box art, or the online forums immediately inspired me to install the game and play to my heart's content. Later on, I would come to find that nothing in the actual game would please my heart, either.

Technically, I haven't reviewed it yet. I think I'll wait until 25 more reviews come out.

Live Music Archive downloads by Various Artists

I have been spending the past week downloading music from the Live Music Archive at www.archive.org. For anyone unfamiliar with this website, it provides free and legal downloads of concerts by musicians and bands that allow their performances to be taped (either by audience members or directly through the soundboard) and posted for not-for-profit use on this site. Currently the site contains 39,819 gigs and counting. It is a cybergoldmine for music lovers. The majority of the gigs are from the jamband category (the Grateful Dead head the list with 2,816 concerts); however, a careful search will reward anyone looking for something other than extended guitar noodling. Here are three excellent examples:

The Mermen

The San Francisco-based Mermen are, on the surface, a surf band.

Buzz Watch: Has Second Life Created Its First Real Life ...

Real estate and development magnate Anshe Chung held a press conference in Second Life on Tuesday to discuss her claim that she is the first to have amassed US$1 million worth of assets in Second Life. She is walking a fine line in making that claim, since Second Life residents don’t take lightly to people making false Second Life claims in order to gain PR in the real world. Earlier this month, Dreamland (Second Life’s largest residential project) residents voted to ban public relations firms that made false claims.During the press conference, Chung talked about how she placed a big bet on the Second Life real estate market with funds she had accumulated since entering the world in 2004, according to Reuters:"Before November 15th I used profits from this business and made one big investment of 250,000 US$ to expand Dreamland, our largest residential project," she said .

Ryzom Ring: Miller clears up Ring Reward Points rumors

Alright, a lot of you Ryzom Ring users have apparently been hounding the net and the Saga of Ryzom forums for more info on the RRP (Ring Reward Points) system and how it works.

So, Daniel Miller, the producer of Nevrax's Ryzom Ring, decided to clear up the issue once and for all by answering ALL the questions you guys posted on their boards (well, not ALL, but rather all RRP-related ones).

First off, Miller says that the system is time-based, so even if you hack and slash like there's no tomorrow, that won't earn you more points than, say, a leisurely scripted adventure.

Miller goes on to discuss the system's concept of "activity" - which basically means that "as long as you're doing something that requires you to be behind your keyboard and interacting with the game we can consider that you're active, and as long as you're active you'll gain reward points at regular intervals." Let's see, what else did he discuss? Ah!

Levels of Reward Points: There are six different classes of reward points.

Space Empires V

Published by Montreal based Strategy First, Space Empires V offers up significant improvements over the previous release and is based on a solid concept, but the sheer lack of pre-release testing is baffling. Dont forget to turn on the auto-save function. Space Empires V brings numerous interesting ideas to the strategy-game table, though none are particularly novel. Nevertheless, seemingly every sci-fi concept you can think of has made its way into this game in some shape or form. Whether youre a fan of shields and tractor beams or atmospheric conditioning and stellar engineering, theres bound to be something attractive for everyone. In fact, one of the games strongest points lies in the huge amount of variability in available technologies, weapons, components, ship designs, races and universes, virtually guaranteeing a different experience every time.
